I want to start running 16 star on emulator but I'm not sure what controller to use, all I have right now is this knockoff usb controller but it doesn't work properly. What would you guys recommend? Thanks in advance :)

xbox one controllers are good, or you can buy an adapter for an original N64 controller and use that

i cant play with OG n64...i also use ps2 (which is the same as xbox imo)

Any mainstream console controller from the past several years (PS2-PS4, XBox-Xbox One) will work, or an original N64 controller with an adapter. I personally use a PS2 controller.

it doesnt matter which controller you use ( as long as it isn't used to cheat) your run will still be confirmed legit (unless you do cheat).
