I think allowing players to grab the items from 1-1 and showing the inventory would be the best option and not an issue at all, since they can do that while running upwards on the stairs, if there is anything more than 10 bulllets and a FAS the run would be rejected, as for the DA i think it can be lowered during the auto scroller where Leon and Helena are waiting for Hunnigan to open the door? there are 2 fire extinguishers where you can damage yourself and a lot of zombies for a little damage.
The ONLY way this would work and have it be fair for every runner, is IF:
- I make a VERY specific save that finishes chapter 1-1 that picks up both the FAS and 10 pistol ammo, so they ALL start with the same items, hp and DA to make it fair.
- Physically force the autosplitter to start at around 9:20 for coop, and an even larger discrepancy for solo BOTH for NG and NG+, which adds more bloat to the autosplitter and more options/settings.
- This is because selecting 1-2 from chapter select forces the timer to 0, as well as if you close the game and click continue it does not save your IGT and will also reset it to 0.
- Every single runner then has to use that save, and to do that you have to literally hexedit that save in a specific way in order to use it or it will not work at all.
- We make every single runner prove they're using this save and show their inventory.
- Retime all current speedruns of leon to match this rule change otherwise it isn't fair to them, which also then doesn't match up with the timing method.
- I would have to do this for multiple different categories
Then we need to think about:
- What about console? Do we just say sorry boys you HAVE to do the intro coz you're on console unlucky bozo?
- Adding multiple extra categories to a game with like 1 new runner every few months is just unnecessary bloat as we agreed
- The only proper way is to essentially rewrite the boards for this and do ALL of the above steps every single time you want to run Leons campaign which imo will turn away any new runners and even old runners wanting to return because the process is horrible, and most people will simply refuse to run the game SOLELY due to how saves work on them in the first place.
Going to be real, this isnt going to get us anywhere when it comes to either side. I personally see no point in the adding it with a game such as this. I get why you guys want it, but there is no point in adding it when I have gotten more much comments about a possibly low% or Mercs speedruns throughout my years on this game than no 1-1. Maybe 3 at most about no 1-1.
Hell, looking into low% since a few have asked but that is something way later down the road due to a lot of areas in RE6.
If you see it as gatekeeping, then you dont know what that even means especially when I have went out of my way to help others when they have questions throughout the years and going to make voice over guides when I get some breathing room in real life.
If we ever get the need for a Category extension page, then that is a slight MAYBE, for no 1-1.
