● The most important tip to improving times is utilizing lean efficiently. You can lean your bike forward or backward, both directions serving different purposes. Tilt backwards when going up steep inclines to increase traction on your back wheel, therefore letting you retain speed. Tilt forward to improve the aerodynamic profile of your bike, giving you far more speed going downhill. ● At the core of every top run is a technique called "pump-boosting". Instead of holding down boost to overtake an enemy, tap the boost button to conserve shields and overtake enemies in one continuous swoop. If you have the shield capacity to support it too, you can also do so when in a recharge lane, maintaining your top speed while also regaining shields. ● In most walkthroughs and guides for Extreme-G 3, it will be noted that using your air brakes (left and right triggers) will decrease your speed. While this is true for normally playing the game, the technique of "pump-boosting" makes this obsolete. In fact, it is a useful tool to help make cornering much easier while pump-boosting. Don't be too afraid to use or even rely on your air brakes. ● Enemies use what I call "engagement probability". If the player moves past the enemy at an equal enough rate, the enemy will fire weapons for a longer duration in the hopes of landing hits. Overtake the enemy at a fast enough rate, however, and the enemy will cut off its attack, accepting that their efforts are futile. Therefore, rushing past the AI at a fast enough speed will reduce potential damage to your shields, and in turn, your speed. Utilize this for Bronze Races in combination with tilting and pump-boosting, and the AI will be nothing more than a footnote. ● On Crystalaria specifically, the track forks early into the race. The left path is better as it drops the player onto the resulting track sooner, meaning less speed lost from the vertical drop. If you have boost, moving fast enough off such drops will sometimes eliminate the hit to your speed entirely since you're moving so fast horizontally. ● Spamming A is ideal for moving from loading screens to gameplay, but not for other menuing. There is some input delay in spamming A through menus. Rhythmically tap A to perform better menuing like selecting levels or backing out of the shop. ● Always buy the shield scoop AFTER the shield boost. The scoop increases shield regeneration, yes, but the rate is relative to shield capacity which is lower without the shield boost. Once you get the boost, the scoop becomes exponentially more effective due to the total amount of boost being doubled. ● The game technically gives you a teammate, but even they become an opponent in later grade cups. They will either shoot forward appearing to target an enemy or use micro mines, both in an attempt to create more obstacles for you. In Bronze Races, they can be a great break in the action as they have no means of shooting in your direction. In All Races, though, beware your teammate.
