Just a heads-up to anyone still coming across this thread — it's pretty old (4 years!), but the info about needing an Office 365 Education account or a valid @schoolname.edu email still holds true for Minecraft: Education Edition access.

If you're no longer a student or don’t have access to a school-provided email, you might consider the regular Java Edition as others mentioned — it offers more flexibility and doesn’t require a school domain.
