Without the important information that we'd need, I don't think we could accept runs on that.
Unofficial hardware seem to run into some murky waters regarding frame rate and emulation accuracy as that information seems to be difficult to find.
I feel like there are enough options already anyway. Original hardware, VC and PC emulators.
I've tried playing on keyboard but I can't play well at all. It's awkward and foreign to me. Being a person who has been a console gamer since around 1988, I can't get the hang of playing on a keyboard. I imagine it's a lot easier if that's what you start off with.
Correct. Those were categories of their own.
If you couldn't do the underground zones, you couldn't do 1-1 pipe, and 1-2 and 4-2 at all. Therefore you wouldn't be able to beat the game.
Suggestions should be posted in this thread on the Category Extensions board:
http://www.speedrun.com/smbce/thread/wshi8
However, we wouldn't approve a category such as this. We removed things like that when we got rid of the user defined categories and individual level leaderboards.
It's too short, it doesn't provide a unique challenge and it doesn't add any value to the leaderboards. It's basically playing 1/8th of warpless and then stopping.
The queue for SMB1, SMB2J and SMBCE is around 20 combined right now, so it's not that bad compared to the 100+ before the changes were made.
Please realize that we volunteer our free time to verify runs. We aren't paid to do this and I wouldn't consider it fun. Its work and it's something that requires a lot of attention to look for things that could be suspicious or to retime/frame count runs and several other things. Not all of the mods actively verify runs. The time I spend verifying runs could be spent otherwise by doing things like playing with my dog or going on a hike or streaming or something with several other interests that I have. Also, I work a normal 8-5 job. So yeah, sometimes you gotta wait a bit because we have other things besides speedrunning going on.

My sticky post addresses this question and other changes to our rules. Feel free to ask any additional questions.
We're a little backlogged at the moment but will get to them when we can.
I'm not sure what would have happened to render you unable to post. As far as I know, we don't have the capability of preventing you from posting. We can delete posts, but that doesn't really explain it here.
Anyway, this practice cart seems cool. I use a powerpak to practice so I may try to load this on it if I get time this evening and try it out.
I may also look into trying to restream some of the matches like the SMW tournament does. I don't know how many people would be available to do help with that, but it's still an idea that I think could be cool. Would also give some exposure to some of the newer/smaller streams.
The format would be something like that of the SMW No Cape No Starworld tournament. Each week you would have a match with an opponent until you are eliminated.
Races would be done on SRL and the winner of the matchup would be based off of the SRL results (unless it's so very close we'd need to retime it).
If we did any% you would do three any% races and the winner is who wins the best three races on the same day. Hopefully that makes sense.
If we did warpless, it would be one race and the winner advances to the next round.
Most of the time, these brackets are double elimination, so there's a winners bracket and losers bracket.
To hopefully give those if you an idea of how this works, here is the tournament I ran in 2013: http://smb1.challonge.com/smb1warpless Sadly it didn't come to completion and I ran it at a bad time as well. The community is much larger now and if ran at a better time, I feel it could be more successful.
Hi, everyone. I wanted to throw the idea out there to see if there's sufficient interest in me hosting an SMB1 tournament.
I would likely start this sometime after SGDQ.
I feel we could either do any% (best of 3 races per round) or warpless.
If you all have an interest in this, let me know your thoughts and category preference. If there's enough interest, I will likely start one. I don't want to start one if there's going to be like less than 10 people.
Well, what I was saying there is that I feel that it would be unfair to do just the any% levels as if that's the only category that matters.
Aside from my suggestion from a previous post of someone doing a leaderboard elsewhere, I suppose you guys could use something like PBtracker. You should be able to define "categories" and submit your own times. I haven't used it in some time but, I'm pretty sure you can do that.
Use the "reset" function of the emulator rather than loading a savestate. You should be able to bind that to a key to be able to do so on your keyboard.
