@EndCubing we already have a sticky thread dedicated to category requests. Use that please.

It's unlikely that we would move that over.

Flagpole glitch should be possible on 3DS. The glitch is very precise and not easy to learn.

We're not going to reject your runs over posting multiple threads.

I'm looking at a queue and you have three submissions in there. They will show up on the leaderboards if they are accepted.

We cleared nearly everything in the queue about a week ago and it's already back up to 84 submissions waiting. Yes, we already have that many again lol.

I don't think I have really much to add to the good explanations that ave been given and my previous response.

However, I will kindly ask you to stop posting multiple threads on pretty much the same topic. I will lock any additional threads that reference this topic. Use the threads you've already created.

Thank you.

He did a really quick reset before the actual run started and I made an error and started timing from the first one instead of the second one. That's where the 2 seconds came from.

I believe I've fixed it. Sorry about that and thanks for pointing that out.

If we are not reasonably certain that a run is legitimate, we will reject the run and it will not show up on our leaderboards. We do have runs submitted from time to time. Examples are: TAS runs, spliced runs and people taking someone else's run and submitting it as their own. Also, if the rules are not followed, we are free to reject those as well.

I have a foot pedal which is really nice, but I suppose a keyboard on the floor would be okay as well.

  1. I'm not really sure what to suggest for tools for Android as I haven't had a tablet in several years and I'd likely never use one for verification of runs anyway. I'm assuming the rest of the SMB1 mods use tools on PC as well.

  2. Console and the emulators (FCEUX, Nestopia, Bizhawk) we most commonly see render the game at 60.0988139 FPS for the NTSC version. Wii VC runs at 59.824 FPS and WiiU VC runs at 59.94 FPS. I'm not sure we have the exact n umber, but we figure the NES Classic runs around the VC framerate which obviously makes those versions a little slower.

  3. A lot of experience watching runs and knowing what's normal and what isn't goes a long way. There are several things we look for and check and may even ask for additional things from the runner if we lack confidence or if there isn't adequate data about the runner that we can find. I won't get any more specific than that on that topic though.

It’s not on 2nd quest or anything is it? The bros behave a little differently and you can’t always jump on them like that. Just a thought.

I took care of those runs you submitted. We've been kinda backlogged during the holiday season. More people have time to submit runs and mods have less time to verify them because holiday season obligations (that's how I feel anyway). I know the queue was 60+ submissions at one point. It's at 18 right now. Y'all are keeping us busy haha.

Well he did say that his capture card is outdated and the quality sucks, so I feel the last thing he wants is an EZCap haha.

Waiting on the title screen does change the patterns. The high level runners delay that because they find they get more favorable patterns.

For you, however, this isn't really going to matter until you get around the 5:00 range where your gameplay is consistent enough to know what framerule you're on and what you can expect. Feel free to wait 8 seconds if you want to, but you're getting nothing positive or negative by doing so except extra waiting for each attempt.

The GV-USB2 is indeed what darbian and quite a few others use as well. I'm still using a Dazzle DVC-100, but I'll likely buy a GV-USB2 if this one dies on me. It's currently working fine so I don't have the justification to switch at the moment.

One other thing.

Races, if you can find people to do races with that can help you complete runs. That's how I got started in speedrunning. I didn't do RTAs very often, I did mostly races.

I feel like I make one of these posts from time to time. I've watched a lot of players over the years deal with this issue and here's my take on it. I'm encouraging you to reevaluate your approach to this game. I'm not trying bring you down or be offensive or anything like that, I'm just telling you straight up how I see it.

I've watched a bit of one of your YouTube broadcasts where you're doing some practice and attempts earlier today. You're focusing on the wrong things. You seem to be stuck on fast 1-2, 4-2 wrong warp, 200 8-1, pipe jumps, etc. You aren't there yet in terms of skill level. My suggestion would be to drop a lot of that and focus on getting cleaner execution on the basics of this game. You can learn all the fancy tricks you want, but without good basic execution, you're not going to get very far before you throw up your hands and have the mindset of "okay, I'm done, this is impossible."

I did not do the wrong warp at all until my time got to 5:09. I probably got sub 5:30 before I started doing pipe jumps. Work on getting better times in smaller chunks. Getting a PB (usually) feels pretty good. Go for a sub 6, then 5:45, then 5:30 and so forth. Also according to your splits, you've only put in about 300 attempts which is not many at all. This is a process that takes time and you have to put the time in as well.

Complete more runs, use safer strats in the places you're having trouble. Set goals that are not out of your reach. Going from 6:27 to 5:00 in one huge chunk is not reasonable at all in my opinion. Don't be embarrassed to submit every small PB you get. Some people seem ashamed by submitting a time that's not an upper tier time and I don't understand why. This is a difficult game that takes time and effort to become skilled at it for nearly everyone.

Also, if you're feeling burnt out still, take some time off or explore a new game until you're ready to come back to this one. There's a reason I run multiple Mario games, and that reason is I move on to another game for a while when I get burnt out on one and come back to it later.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope it sheds an alternate light on your situation and anyone else who is in the same rut.

Yes, it would invalidate your run by using those tools because those are things that you can't do on console and original cart. It's intended for practice/experimental purposes.

I feel the bracket link in the post should have the information you need but I'll break it down real quick.

There are two brackets, a winner's bracket and a loser's bracket.

When the tournament starts, you will have a matchup against someone that you'll see on the bracket. You have a week to schedule with your opponent and do the race. Races must be streamed.

If you win your race you will move on to the next opponent in the winner's bracket. If you lose you will move to the loser's bracket and play someone who lost their winner's bracket match as well. If you lose a matchup in the loser's bracket, you are eliminated from the tournament.

Each round in the tournament is given a one week window for everyone to work out a time with their opponent to do their race.

Some races will be restreamed on a restream channel. What that means is viewers will be able to watch on a single twitch channel and see the race side by side with selected people doing commentary.

If you wanna see an example of what that's like you can look at the current SMW tournament stuff. https://www.twitch.tv/supermarioworld
