So your saying if I accidentally fail the trick and it displays 1 jump then the run shouldn't be verifiable? That's honestly the stupidest thing i've ever heard. Normally it isn't that difficult but after a pb, a lot of people will experience hands shaking or something similar which can cause the trick to be a lot harder. I'd be for either doing the trick or just talking to toadette normally and subtracting one. This makes it easy to verify runs.

I think an issue with this is that talking to npc's count as jumps which is avoidable but somewhat difficult. This can be a problem with verifying because someone may fail to pull of the trick to avoid showing 1 jump while talking to toadette and it be really close to making it. This would be confusing on if the run is legitimate because while the game would display 1 that might be from a failed skip when talking to toadette. Although we could subtract 1 when talking to toadette normally.

I don't think emulator is an issue but doing runs in segment is an obvious no in speedrunning. Doing it in segments is considered cheating and will never be verified. I'm not mod so I can't confirm the emulator issue but segmenting is the worst thing you could possibly do

You need to clarify the category and sub category but I would assume your talking about all castles because that's the category closest to 1:17 by a large margin but at the same time it has already been done many many times and 1:17 has been beaten so if that is the case by any chance then yes it is OpieOP

I am looking into running this game but after looking at the 7 star WR I noticed that the player skipped the final star and only did 6. Can someone please explain why this was verified?

because newer smb is not nsmb. There is interest for the category in NSMB but not newer. Saying that is like saying every SM64 is supposed to have a 70 star category even though you might need a different amount of stars to beat the game glitchless. This is a modification of NSMB, not the same game.

I don't care too much about the category but you saying "This category will single out the good players from the bad." really pissed me off. 1st off. The top players would be at the top of the leaderboards for the normal categories so I don't understand what that would do other than turn off people from running it. 2. Speedrunning is a competition against yourself, not to be the top player. Sure it's nice to be at the top and there is that competition but that's not the only part. When cheese took the WR from puncay and Nero in 120 stars 2 years ago by 50 seconds. Puncay wasn't mad or wanted revenge like that was the only thing that mattered. He congratulated him. Someone saying "This category will single out the good players from the bad" is comepletely ignorant to what speedrunning really is.

I think it's because SMG1 has 121 unique stars and the other half is the same but with a different character making it completely worthless. However because it is required you get all 120 stars with both characters to get to the last unique star only 120 stars is done.

if it's ranked by amount of items gained instead of speed then it isn't a speedrun.

i don't think there is anyone that actively runs this game anymore besides electriccrusher891 who's times aren't on the leaderboards due to lack of video proof but i guess that's good for people who want to pick up the game later.

you could make them sub categories. So it is split so no one gets and advantage but the leaderboards don't look like a mess.
