KH community moved from a google doc to here so I had to join.
I’m still here because I’m still involved in the hobby.
Really shitty answers but my reasons for being here are pretty simple and boring ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Edit: I thought of a better (worse) answer - I found here because SRL couldn’t figure out leaderboards and I’m still here because they never figured them out Kappa
From what I can see, that platform doesn’t exist on the site yet, you’ll need to request it.
I guess I’m still confused how there’s a problem or a bug here. Nothing is preventing you from approving the obsoleted run (Unless the site somehow doesn’t let you approve an obsolete run which would be new to me since I’ve had obsolete runs approved in the past when I forgot to submit PBs). What you’ve described is something that probably happens frequently when users are improving their times fast. Just approve both runs - regardless of the order your approve them in, the WR will still be WR and the obsolete run will still be obsolete. There shouldn’t be any additional notifications or problems or anything.
If I’m still missing something then sorry about that, but it all seems pretty straightforward to me based on what you’ve described. I guess sorting submissions by time regardless of the order they were submitted by makes sense, but because the site knows when a run is obsolete it doesn’t really matter or change anything.
I’m not sure what the issue is. Unless I’m mistaken, if you approve a run that is obsoleted nothing bad happens, the run just becomes obsoleted. I think that regardless of the order in which they are approved, an obsolete run will still be obsolete.
I could be mistaken, but I thought I remember people saying it worked that way a while back when a similar topic came up.
You’re going to need to ask the mods of the game. Different games/communities may have different required versions and/or settings. Check with them or maybe other runners to figure out what it should be.

You’ll need to purchase a capture card to run your PS4 gameplay into OBS. There are many different brands, search around and find one that fits your price range.

Someone can give you splits, or you can make your own, whichever your prefer. Most people make their own so they can customize them to match their likes. Livesplit has a bunch of tutorials on their site and all over YouTube, I’d recommend watching them for in depth explanations on how to use it.

Autosplitters are for PC games, you’ll have to manually split yourself when running a game on a console. Most people set space bar to their split key for ease.
You can find the KH discord in a stickied thread on the series forum, you can join there for questions specific to KH1 and we also have a channel dedicated to help with streaming as well. The discord is much more active than the forums here, although a few of us still check here frequently.
You’ll have to ask the mods of the games. Most games have approved emulator versions and configurations and they differ game by game, there is no standard.
Often times the rules for each game will also specify the allowed emulator and any special rules for using them.
Emulator runs slower than console so it’s allowed (plus DS capture is stupid expensive).
Always check the rules in an LB to see if emulator is allowed as mods will often put in there if emu is banned.
Here's a suggestion. I see tons of feedback in this thread but almost none of it is getting done or noticed. Start doing that.
I’m sure the volunteers running this site love to see comments like this. Applications for a programmer are open, go apply for one if you think you can do a better job.
I see the site staff and admins get so much flack on here and in some discords (one comment I saw in a discord said that “they’re glad site staff stopped adding useful features years ago”) and every time I see it it pisses me off. Everyone complains about development moving slow on the site but I don’t see any new volunteers for improving it aside from Volvagia. And he’s done an excellent job stepping up and doing the best he can to fix bugs and add features.
If anyone here who constantly complains about the site staff and the site think they can do better then I encourage them to apply to help and do as much as they can. I obviously don’t know if the programmer application gets a lot of traction, but again, feel free to apply if you can contribute instead of just complaining.
Timers can be used to detect cheating, but they are more for ensuring accurate timing
Liking timers is fine, but this sentence is giving them a little too much credit. Timers can’t detect cheating unless the person cheating is an actual moron. Playing back a spliced video next to a timer is stupid simple and the timer won’t reveal anything indicating it’s not an actual run.
The same goes for verifying accuracy. While it can kinda aid in showing a run starting and stopping at the right time, video time stamps can do the same thing. Timers are nice, but they are really only for viewers, they don’t do much in terms of verifying runs. There are many other more reliable ways to verify runs for accuracy.

Maybe not a bot, but if it’s a real person they’re just posting self promotion with random download links
I’m curious as to the reasons behind the banning of Everdrives. I know that they are allowed for most other games and tend to be very accurate to an actual cart. Is the GBA one more inaccurate than say the NES and SNES ones? I’d be curious to see any videos or timings you all have on them since I’m not super familiar with the GBA one and it’s performance/accuracy.
This site doesn’t support the linking to ROMs or WADs and doing so is a good way to site staff to come down on you. You’ll either have to google like mentioned or you’ll have to join the MM discord where they have links available.
Yeah, hitting him before he flies away staggers him and interrupts the action of him flying away - it essentially "skips" that move in his attack pattern and lets you lock him onto the first platform where you can get 1 cycle. And like others have said, the timing is just that - a timed attack - and it will take some practice to get down.
As a note, if at any time you knock him off the platform so he's hovering over air, he will instantly teleport away (in the ball of darkness, not the bubble) on his next attack. You can't stagger him out of this one, so just never push him off the edge and always keep him over solid ground.
Which community was the first to introduce controller-camers as mandatory to verify, that the sent-in-video isn't TAS?
No community has ever done this to my knowledge so I’m not entirely sure what you’re talking about with this.
Most communities don’t have crazy rules to prevent cheating, they have just learned to recognize when some things look out of place. There have been some communities that have put in stricter emulator rules such as requiring people to show emulator version, FPS, and controller mappings at the end of a run to verify nothing was mis-configured.
Really though, cheating in this hobby has been overblown - it’s nowhere near as big an issue as the YouTubers you mentioned have made casual viewers believe. Their videos are all very click bait like and try to make everyone believe that cheating is a huge issue in speedrunning, but the reality is that it happens very infrequently and is usually very easy to spot.
PAL versions are generally slower than their NTSC counterparts so this is nothing new. Usually, nobody will run using PAL due to the obvious disadvantages. Most games won’t create a separate category for PAL and will encourage runners to use a faster version, but that doesn’t have to be the case. I would contact the moderator for the game and discuss it with them to see what should be done about it. You can ask for a separate category and see what they say.
As a side note, I see you’re using emulator, so I wouldn’t even worry about the PAL version, I would just run on NTSC-U or NTSC-J, whichever is faster.
I’m not sure what goes wrong with one cycle for you, but that’s the first thing you need to work on. The strat itself isn’t hard at all, but the biggest problem people have is that they aren’t mashing out their combos fast enough so they miss out on damage. Making sure to constantly call your party members is important too since Aladdin’s damage helps. Other than that, without a video it’s only guessing what the issue could be.
As for him flying around, it sounds like your timing is just off. When he flies away, going to the opposite side of the raised circle in the floor will make him head back towards the platform where the fight starts. Once he’s there, hitting him is as easy as just timing the hit. I’m not sure what tutorial you’re using (for PS4 it should be BTrues) but once his cape finishes falling, that’s your cue to hit him because that when he’s vulnerable - which sounds like what the tutorial says to do. It’s just a visual cue that takes a couple times to recognize.
Unfortunately the best advice is to keep practicing. The fight isn’t very hard, but you need to get the timing for some things down. Also, as I recommend to everyone, joining our discord is a significantly better place for help with all of the games. You can find a link pinned in the series forum.
