I see good runners always doing these strats in cloud kingdom where they get super close and get the hat on them instantly. How do you do this? I know you back flip and throw the hat at the right time, but every time i try it, the hat just goes right back onto Bowser.

Okra's commentated tutorial helps a bunch. Your problem seems to being either far off from the right spot on the mound or too close to Bowser, move directly under the hat (preference) or on the upper half of the mound.
