Functional RDR1 flying glitch tutorial

I put down a fairly average time for this run today, my main thing is the glitch, I was able to do it great in practice but with the rifles, then in the speedrun I'm just struggling so hard with the shotguns, no clue why, I'm fast so that doesn't feel like it's the issue, just really scratching my head why it isn't working until attempt number 30 each time, or I get the glitch but it shows me with the stretched out horse reigns, then I hit L1/LB and I am warped back onto the horse but it cancels out the glitch, very difficult for me to get it on foot too.

Edit: As soon as I type this out, I felt it go right for me, however I was having to pull out the undead bait afterwards to get it going and I don't think that's how it should go, I know it's 100% a skill issue and I'll get it
