Calling out to all moderators out there, did it already happen that someone submitted a run by posting a shady or malicious link in the submission so that the mod would click it and open some kind of virus or something? I might just be paranoid but I do see weird links sometimes
this has actually happened one time where someone submited a pdf im pretty sure that if I were to open it it would have put a virus on my computer the account was made 10 minutes ago at the time of submission
Make sure to support hub/bots deletion thread these immidiently.
There aren't that many exploits that can screw over your entire PC without you downloading something yourself. Generally if a runner makes you download something or sign up to a website to watch, reject the run and tell them it must be publicly visible without a signup/download without ever downloading it.
as mean as it may be you can always reject a run if the video is not hosted on youtube, twitch, niconico or something well known. there is hardly ever a reason for the runner to be unable to upload the run to either youtube or twitch (yes you can upload stuff to twitch)
Alright thanks guys!
@SioN well I feel that's pretty tough to ask, especially cause I'm a mod for a mobile game, so many people that aren't used to speedrunning submit their runs on Google Drives, Samsung shares, I even had one on TikTok once, etc. It's often a pain for me to verify (especially cause we do frame by frame), but I would feel bad requiring YouTube only, I don't want to limit the players too much. But I do agree that uploading a video on YouTube is often the least people could do, it makes it so much easier to verify
@KaweedFul I mean tiktok is actually ok imo if the run can fit in it, you can view that without a signup.
Drive/Shared are bad tho I agree.
The site just needs drive embeds tbh, they function the same as yt runs in which you don't need to download them to retime.
