Well, hello there.

The realm of speedrunning always amazed me since the day I first saw Super Mario Bros. being run in just under 5 min. a couple years ago which was absolutely mindblowing to me. Since then I followed the anual AGDQ and SGDQ discovering what speedrunners are able to achieve for an incredibly great cause. Rarely any other community is so wholesome and helpful in the most brutal and enduring of competitions. The race against time. Anyways after endless hours of watching speedruns I finally decided to join the community and try out running myself. Don't know which game yet, though, but theres always games to be run for anybody. The right game will find me in time I guess. Until then, keep running and squeeze the milliseconds. Peace.

Hello! The usual advice given to newcomers who are unsure of what they want to run is to pick a game you already enjoy playing. The idea is, you tend to like things you're better at, and it's easier to put time into grinding a game you enjoy.

But, if you don't feel like running games you've already played for whatever reason, another good option is to find a game that has speedrunning built into it from the get-go. There are lots of web & pc games with in-game timers, so the game already encourages you to optimize your time. These tend to be platformer or puzzle games, though you can find other genres represented as well.
