karl_k: As long as it's an external one. Just curious, what's the reason for AHK? As far as I know, it will be intel/nvidia.

etholon: Does it run standalone without installations ? I know the program and I agree that there is demand for it. However I want to avoid permanent installations as much as I can.

Exceptions can be made, but we generally want to avoid any extra since those might interfere, from sudden update popups to other unwanted stuff.

For things like the PS3 stuff, we'll need to make sure that there will be no two different ways of getting them working on the same system. Driver interferences might cause bluescreens in the worst case.

DxWnd and nglide should be fine as those work in a rather launcher fasion. Might be that we will need DxWnd already for the FDNY run as it runs like crap when using fullscreen :)

OK, ESA is getting closer and it’s time for the equipment thread ! (Link for list at the bottom)

As usual, we will rely at ESA on your support in bringing equipment.

While we have a bunch of consoles/controllers that we will bring to the venue on behalf of ESA, for now, those are to be considered spare items in case something breaks.

Let’s get on with the must haves in case you are running...

CONSOLES ! In case you are unable to bring your console, please coordinate with someone else who is bringing their own or ask us tech guys (oasiz or planks) for the possibility of using an in-house console.

For retro consoles we will be using RGB or component output. Please bring your cables! If you don’t know what this means, please contact #av-tech-production-crew on discord. We will be using HDMI on any console that has it. It is important that you have your system in hand for your run preferably before the previous game as there is a chance that the system can be fully setup before your run actually starts. We’ve had some instances of “Uhh.. NN has my system and I haven’t really seen him today, probably sleeping” in the past and we really don’t want to delay the schedule due to this. Thanks!

We have a 6 outlet 110V power supply for imported consoles at the streaming area, but you need to bring your own for practice.

In a nutshell: Arrange a component / RGB system, your game game and a controller for your run !

**PC GAMERS ! ** If you need custom software make sure you know how to install it and how to remove it, quickly. Setup must be done during times that console runs are taking place. You are welcome to bring your own pre-configured laptop so long as it has an HDMI output.

PC games themselves can generally easily be downloaded from steam or similar (with your account) so no need to bring any physical copies unless your game requires such. That said, it is much quicker to copy your game folder into steamapps from a usb (3.0) stick.

That’s it for the mandatory equipment we expect the runner to arrange.

However, even if you aren’t running, there is still the opportunity to play your own games in the practice area… Why not start a side/pirate stream during the event :) ?

For on-site activities, you are encouraged to bring stuff like:

Consoles & Games USB3 capture cards (Xcapture or similar are a good option) Sync strikes Any sort of video splitters (HDMI, SCART, component/etc..) along with spare cables Web cameras Microphones, (something better than the 10e logitech value one :) ) And if you’re willing, there is probably use for a dedicated streaming system for any side-streams. HD TVs ! Ok, so most of you aren’t driving. But if you are, the number of HD TVs is always limited and the more that can be brought by runners to share in the practice area or use for stuff like rock band the better.

Feel free to pool resources together and make some kick-ass side activities !

And here is the link where you can fill in ! https://goo.gl/uC5Ezq

Ah ok! there will be an equipment thread shortly with more guidelines and focused on that.

What JohnUK89 said, and yes hosts will be having their own schedule.

Babyhuehnchen: What sort of adapter stuff ? :) I assume that it's something specific to your run. Generally when providing your own system/cabling/etc.. we're leaning on having a table for "next game" where the runners can put their gear and we'll just plug in whatever is needed. If you intend on borrowing something for more long term, please talk to us old farts so that we can make note of any extra equipment that we have.

Also, Remember labels people ! ;)

I'm a horrible liar and I only started contacting people recently. Anyway, looks like so far everyone is on board, still missing a few OKs that I expect to get soon. I'll start booking regardless so that the prices don't start changing around, just gonna pay the difference out of my pocket if some worst case scenario comes and it's gonna suddenly surge.

There was some confusion about the slave labor part so here we go: You only have to volunteer IF you intend to stay at the venue before the event, if you travel along and spend the first night elsewhere, that's fine by me. No obligations :) I'll ask everyone about this later on but there is no harm in letting me know in advance about this either.

It's mainly going to be basic setup stuff and helping around as needed. If your CV includes that you carried a CRT once without breaking it or taping a sign the right way up, that's more than plenty.

Ok, we have 2 full 4man cabins so landed on the optimum pricing.

I'll try to contact everyone later today with the more final pricing and ask for final confirmation. Hopefully I'll get things booked around tomorrow, before prices hike.

HUOMIO - OBS - ATTENTION

EDIT: ESA Boat trip list will be locked this sunday at 23.59 (Finnish time). Now would be a good time to check in or do final changes.

So far, got 7 participants (+1 me). This means 2x 4man cabins split between 8. Naturally we'd want to land with muliples of 4 but after 2 cabins, having a partial third one isn't too big of a difference in the overall cost.

I'll announce the pricing in more detail once the list has been closed and do a final check on people.

http://memorex.lerppu.net/pic/esaboat2.png ESA runs from 23.7. - 1.8.

NOTE! By arriving early on the venue itself, you WILL agree to be used as slave labor for setup, sleeping is not possible on the venue unless you have signed up for volunteer tech/interaction. So either spend the night in a cheap sleazy hostel somewhere, stay awake and jump from pub to pub or sign up and help run the event like other very cool people do. However, if you make your own arrangements for 22-23 and skip the venue then that's fine by me.

Departure from Helsinki is planned for 21.7. This means that the boat will arrive at 22.7. in Stockholm. From there we can take the local subway not too far away (10min walk) and get to the Main terminal. Main terminal has a bunch of trains, currently seems to go for 250SEK per direction. (stockholm C - Växjö)

Boat price is always per cabin, 4man cabin being the most useful. With my Clubone bonus card, a round trip for these days comes at 235e roughly for a 4man cabin. Split that between four and we have about 60e per traveller. (118e per cabin)

Now these boat prices are rigged, the moment I go for one-way, the price will be about the same as a round trip. They want people to get drunk, wasted and spend all their money on video poker so day cruises usually run a bit cheaper than this, meaning that you take a cruise but never actually go back even though you have a ticket for that. Unfortunately from a quick check, it seems that a day cruise costs the same as a round trip.. Those bastards!

I really hope for the sake of planning and convenience that people book round trips as the boat company will ask for name and age. While it's not as strict as flights, I'd preferably avoid calling them about changes.

You can catch me on skype/irc if you have questions.

Going to mostly repeat what was said. A word about tech as I am terribly sorry about the issues that popped up that resulted in cut runs.

We had about 2 hours to set up the corner from scratch, this includes stuff up to power and network & tables. While we did a really good job getting it all together before the start (Thanks to everyone who was helping!) we still ran in to crazy ground loop issues that we were afraid of. My miracle, no shop had those isolators in stock but the venue had two of those in storage!

Anyway, There was a 3-input setup with really good quality capture cards, for some reason one of them started acting up and freezing OBS. Long story short, stuff that has always worked in personal use started causing issues, hence the setup that I had planned for more seamless switching was out of the window. This is one of the main reasons why setup times took as long as they did in some cases, essentially just one capture card to work with for the 85% of the marathon and every 2-3rd game requiring minor to major changes between. Thanks for the patience between the runs, I really tried to improvise as much as I could to minimize the impact :p

Finnruns:

  • Relaxed atmosphere between organizing
  • Game selection
  • Attendees
  • More tech buffer on schedule, this was discussed and mostly just mentioning it here for noting it. Run estimates should always have a fixed +5min or +10min instead of set buffers as filling gaps with wildcards is much better than being 2hrs behind.

  • Lack of a split button, I had the PCB and everything but I lacked a button and time to do it. This is something I'd want to have in next year as it's more than just a silly gimmick.

  • Practice room, Won't say more since I guess everyone is aware of the shortcomings anyway.

Venue:

  • Flexibility
  • Sleeping
  • Free entry
  • Letting us do our "own thing" without stops
  • Equipment
  • Ale pupi
  • Really poor setup time
  • Handling of teardown
  • Extremely excessive security, I have never seen anything like this in a LAN/demo party and I'd argue that even some airport security checks have been quicker than this. This was really frustrating as I ran to help with tech during one night and I was checked 4 times in 3hrs total. Big no-no for comfort.

Overall I had a blast !

Hi!

Still busy setting things up so sorry for the delay.

Yes, you can pay on the door. If possible, bring your basic banking details with you, Edenal requested it for something that I already forgot :p

FYI:

Dreamhack PCs are now at MARK 2013

Specs are: GTX670 i5-3570K @3.4GHz 16GB of RAM

These "SHOULD" be capable of running anything out in the market with at least lower settings.

If you do not bring a PC, this will be it.

I guess you mean component ? 3 for video and 2 for audio.

This is what we will prefer.

It should be just fine with a passive adapter, It might read something like 220~240V 50Hz.
