I'm pretty sure the older your PC is, the bigger your FPS is :D Of course to a limit, but in general, new PCs are not going to get that high 34+ FPS. And yeah, it's probably to do with the CPU.

But like fhelwanger said, FPSFix is not allowed to be used to increase your FPS, even though it CAN be used for it. The same way you tweak FPSFix values to get exactly (or close enough) to 30 FPS, you can tweak the values to get any other FPS value (as far as I understand it).

Of course, if you are only going to be running for your own/stream entertainment and not going to be submitting to the leaderboard, you are free to do whatever you want.

No, the mod that changes the button icons is not allowed. If you are following my notes, then you are likely having trouble with the inputs because I have my circle and triangle buttons switched, so Meteor Strike for example is Down Triangle Up Triangle, when with the default options it's Down Circle Up Circle. For PC buttons the button in-between is the button that opens the menu IIRC. So Down Menu Up Menu is the general inputs needed.

It says Any% so I think it's safe to assume that means true Any%.

I would consider the remaster to be a different game than the 2013 PC version. Also, the boosters in the remaster are different than the boosters in the 2013 version, so the runs are quite different, the remaster being slower.

I've always treated it as "When damage numbers are visible". This prevents you splitting early in case of a miss , even though it's not really relevant to ff8 but in theory it could be a problem. I think I remember reading somewhere something about the damage numbers being at the peak of their animation (they are visible and move upwards for a bit and then go back down). But that seems a bit extreme.

So my goal here is to try and gather opinions about the removal of co-op categories from pretty much anyone. If you have an argument for or against the removal, feel free to express it. I have talked and have asked @kaivel to talk to the runners of the categories about how they feel about the removal and half of them care and half of them don't really mind. It seems like barring any developments these two categories will be removed.

The reason I feel like these categories don't belong in the leaderboards is that the co-op runs are mostly just for fun and not for competition, something you can do with your friend for fun but you aren't going to take too seriously. They don't bring anything interesting to the run, it's just the same any% except done with two/three people.

If I remember correctly, problem with FF7-8-9 category was that different people did different rules. Some ran with PSX versions, some with PC. Some ran without credits (from last hit straight to new game) and some with the credits.

Tradition is not the only reason turbo is not allowed. FF9 PSX leaderboards is one of the biggest reasons I don't think a turbo category is a good idea. It will end up being a pointless category where you can try to do normal any% runs and if you don't think you can PB anymore, switch to a turbo controller for the last X minutes and get a PB/WR in turbo category.

Another big reason for not allowing turbo is that it increases the cost of entry to be competitive. Turbo controllers are not super easy to come by, either.

If you want to run with turbo and be included in the leaderboards, you always have the option of running JP version.

There's been some discussion about creating a turbo category for psx any% run before, and I don't think even that is a good idea. Allowing turbo straight up for boosters runs is even worse of an idea IMO, and creating a turbo category of a niche category makes even less sense to me. Not to mention that boosters run only lasts a couple hours compared to the 7h+ that any% runs last for.

Because turbo is banned by default in the western communities. JP categories allow turbo because that's their custom.

Thank you all for voicing your opinions. Seems like the majority of you agree that Windows 7 should be banned, and the majority of people who voted for separate categories are also fine with banning Windows 7. We have decided to ban Windows 7 runs from the HD PC categories.

I can quite confidently say co-op categories will not be added. Some other categories may be, like Booster% and Plat%.

You are free to do runs any way you want but a category isn't going to be created until there is more demand.

Could you please answer with one of the options in the opening post. If FPSFix was a viable option we would have presented it as such. We've tried making FPSFix work in FF8 like they have in FF7 and it just doesn't work equally well because the screen transitions are still much slower in Windows 10 than in Windows 7 and therefore doesn't fix the problem, it just makes it slightly less bad.

This is only for the new HD version, no rules are being changed for the 2013 release of the game at this time.

I think banning Windows 7 entirely sets us up best for the future. I don't see how allowing all operating systems (options 1 & 2) is going to be sustainable long term when we are thinking of doing something about it for the 2013 release. Having a separate category would be the compromise solution, but I don't see why we should create a category that is going to die slowly as people stop using Windows 7 rather than creating a long term solution right away.

No idea and I don't think anyone has tried calculating or measuring it.
