A quick play-through of Outrun Sega Ages 2500 on the PS2 (using pcsx2 PS2 emulator). This is a very weird beast indeed, a sort of Outrun 1.5 if you will. The slightly retarded, illegitimate love-child of the original Outrun and Outrun 2.

It's a 3D remake of the original Outrun, which came out in Japan only (as far as I'm aware) for the PS2 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series of budget-priced, retro-themed releases by Sega, It's a nice idea, but there's no escaping the fact it looks a bit, well... shit, really. When you consider that the PS2 had it's own very competent and nice looking port of Outrun 2006, you can't help but feel that they could've made a BIT more effort to make it look more detailed and less simplistic. Still, I guess it was only meant to be a budget release and it does run at 60 fps and conveys a fairly solid sense of speed and it also has an arranged mode featuring new tracks, so that's got to count for something.

(The pcsx2 emulation isn't perfect here and it has a weird effect of making all the track and some of the background look like it's in shadow)
