Summary

These were my notes on a route. This makes heavy use of two glitches:

  • The "View Char glitch", which I also call the "A+C glitch"
  • Resting in no-teleport areas to clear the no-teleport flag.

With this route, we glitch in suitably powerful weapons to get through the Barbarian class quest, use the resulting 5M XP to train ourselves up enough to get through the Black Ticket battles. We try to glitch in as many key items as possible to our inventory; unfortunately there are still a few that we don't have the ability to acquire this way, so we still have to take a jaunt into the 8th Century.

We also utilize a couple other things:

  • The "fetid pool" in A4 sets all attributes to 100 until the party rests.
  • Temple blessings-* donate until you receive the message that "Truly you are blessed". This confers a whole bunch of statuses, notably "Walk on Water" and the four elemental "Transmutation" statuses, saving the need for a Cleric in your party to cast them.
  • Fast transport is done via Witch's Brooms and Teleport Orbs. Teleporting off the edge of a map will cause you to "wrap around".

Possible optimizations:

  • If we can glitch in more key items, that saves a huge chunk of time.
  • There are probably better ways to optimize movement, both by better utilization of the Teleport Orb as well as walking forwards or backwards in the right places. There can be significant lag in screen updates depending on what things are on-screen; mountainous areas are especially prone to this.

Route

Procure a Party

  • This counts in the timing. Make everyone Bar/Fem/Evil.

Save Sherman

  • You'll start out in Middlegate.
  • Go to the Mage's Guild at (1, 12). Use the A+C glitch from the mage sprite, and retrieve the Earth Talon and a whole bunch of gold off one of the fake characters.
  • Go to Edmund's Expeditions at (3, 12), get Mountaineering x2
  • Go to portal at (0, 5) to reach Sandsobar (8, 1)
  • Go to portal at (4, 15) to reach Tundara (6, 11)
  • Go to Tundarax Weaponry at (11, 10)
    • Buy two Witch's Broom
    • Use the blacksmith sprite to A+C glitch a Titan's Pike for all six party members.
  • Use Witch's Broom to fly to A4
  • Drink from the fetid pool at (10, 10) to make all stats 100
  • Use Witch's Broom to fly to B4
    • Face west (should be doing so already) and walk backwards 3 times to fight Brutal Bruno (Barbarian Quest). Hold down A to auto-fight.
  • Rest, then fly to D2
    • Walk east 3 (you should be facing west, so "backwards 3")
    • Turn and walk south 4
  • Read the plaque about the quests; everyone gets 5mil XP
  • Fly back to A4
  • Drink from the fetid pool at (10, 10) again.
  • Go to (13, 10) to enter Atlantium.
  • Go to Drewnhald Ironworks at (6, 13)
    • Buy Teleport Orb and 3 Black Tickets
  • Use teleport orb to jump 6 spaces (to (6, 7))
  • Turn west, enter temple, buy blessings
  • Go to Island Training at (10, 4), train everyone up
  • Go to the coliseum, exchange a Black Ticket for a fight
  • Fly to B4
  • Go west 3 then south to fight some Amazons to free Sherman

Get the Element Orb and sneak it out of Dawn's Cavern with a hireling.

  • Fly to E4
  • Enter Sandsobar and the Monster Bowl, do a Black Ticket fight
  • Fly to A1
  • Go to Tundara
    • From blacksmith's door at (10, 10), face south, teleport 8
      • Use the screaming pods sprite to pick up three machine parts (J-26 Fluxer, A-1 Todilor, N-19 Capitor) via A+C glitch
    • Teleport west 7 for the cat corpses
      • Use the cat sprite to pick up the Air Talon and the Water Disc via A+C glitch.
  • Rest, fly to A4, re-fetid-pool yourself
  • Head inside into Atlantium, go to the Carriage Inn at (9, 13) and pick up Sherman
  • Fly to D4
  • Walk west into the swamp, then south once for an encounter.
    • Hold A to auto-fight, and hope that Swamp Dogs are at the bottom of the stack! Otherwise, run and try again.
    • Using the A+C glitch off the Swamp Dogs sprite will yield a M-27 Radicon.
  • Walk south then west some more to get to Dawn's cavern
    • "A sign here reads: Keep Out!"
  • Enter Dawns Cavern
  • Go east 1 then south 1. Don't climb out.
  • Rest (to clear no-teleport), then teleport 1.
  • Turn east, go one step, and trade the four machine parts for the orb.
  • Find the Orb Guardian fight in the hallway, and run from it to return to the entrance.
  • Trade the Orb to Sherman and dismiss him.
  • Exit out of the dungeon.
  • Fly to A4, go to the inn, pick up Sherman
  • Retrieve the orb from Sherman

Get the four elemental discs in year 800 to access the talons.

  • (Note: at this point, we have the Air Talon, the Earth Talon, and the Water Disc, so the only disc we need is the Fire Disc; if you could find a way to glitch in the Fire Disc or Fire Talon you could skip all this)
  • Unlock the time machine
    • Fly to A2
    • Teleport south 6, then west 7. Enter Castle Pinehurst.
    • Teleport south 5, then west 9. Go through throne room door.
    • Talking to Lord Peobody with Sherman in the party unlocks the time machine around the corner at (2, 5).
  • 8th Era:
    • Use the time machine to go to the 8th Era
    • Fly to C2
    • Move east 5
    • Move north 5
    • Move east one more to (14,8) to reach Castle Xabran.
    • Turn south, teleport 9
    • Walk south 1
    • Turn east, teleport 6
    • Take the red disc
    • Rest until you time-travel back and reappear at Middlegate.
  • Go to the Slaughtered Lamb Pub at (4, 6) and restock food Gateway Temple at (7, 7) and re-bless
  • Walk backwards into the Middlegate inn
  • Turn east, teleport 6
  • Fight the arena battle to finish the third Black Ticket battle
    • (Note: this can be rough, because you don't have the fetid-pool boost.)

Get the talons in each elemental plane.

  • (Note: We already glitched ourselves two of them.)
  • The Water Talon:
    • Fly to A4, drink from the fetid pool again.
    • Continue past the fountain until you hit the edge, then south until you reach (0, 0) to find the entrance to the Elemental Plane of Water.
    • The Water Talon is at (10, 10):
      • Go East 11
      • Go North 10
      • Go West 1 and trade the Water Disc for the Water Talon
    • Rest until you get back
  • The Fire Talon:
    • Re-bless, fly to A4, re-fetid-pool
    • Fly to E1
    • Go north once, then east, then north all the way until you reach (15, 15) to find the Elemental Plane of Fire
    • The Fire Talon is at (4, 4)
      • Go North 1
      • Go West 10 (message and then two more)
      • Go South 10 (encounter)
      • Go South once more to trade the Fire Disc for the Fire Talon
    • Rest until you get back.

Give the orb and talons to Kalohn in year 800.

  • Fly to A2
  • Teleport south 6, then west 7. Enter Pinehurst.
  • Teleport south 3, then east 3. Turn left to use the time machine.
  • Go to the 8th Era
  • Walk forward one, and give Kalohn the orb and talons.
  • Kalohn then defeats the Mega Dragon. Congratulations, we just changed history!
  • Rest to time-travel back and reappear at Middlegate.

Complete the juror quest and black triple crown to deal with Lamanda.

  • Dismiss Sherman (he didn't win the triple crown). Now your party consists entirely of triple crown winners. Sorry, Sherman!

Visit Kalohn in the year 900 to activate the Square Lake events.

  • Go to the Gateway Temple at (7, 7) and re-bless
  • Fly to E1
  • Travel west 3 (which will move you into D1), then face north and walk backwards (moving into D2) to get to the castle.
  • Enter the throne room.
  • Talk to Lamanda. Turn, then turn back; Kalohn's on the throne now!

Enter Square Lake and encode the cryptogram.

  • Exit the throne room (so you don't have a ceiling over your head) then fly to C2
  • Go to the cave in the middle of the lake to enter Square Lake Cave
  • Face south, rest (to clear no-teleport), teleport 1.
  • Enter override code: WAFE
  • Solve the cryptogram, which are the letters aligning with PREAMBLE in the following.
