Pause Buffering discussion/strats thread

I will start off by making a list of all the missions where pause buffering is useful - tell me if i missed any.

Nines And Aks - Emmet & Smoke's lines Sweet's Girl - 2nd Call from sweet Tanker Commander - Catalina's dialogue Photo Opportunity - Dialogue after you take the last picture Fender Ketchup - To get the spook-o-meter to appear faster, not sure how fast this strat is. Home In The Hills - While triads are speaking in the plane & pause buffering for magic jump.

100%(Possibly) - Tagging up Turf - pause buffering to grab the ledge of the building where the last tag is. Should be faster than car or running all the way to the usual spot.

Couple ideas i don't want to test - feel free to test them 1.Pause buffering while speaking to Toreno on Learning to Fly dupe to make the phonecall go faster. 2. Pause buffering at the end of New Model Army to skip Zero's lines.

Also if pause buffering is consistent for you, post your secrets here. Kappa

dont have a video, but pause buffering during highjack when cesar is jumping on the truck will make cesar get on almost automatically

It can skip lines or "dupe"^^ them. Woox says you should experiment with different settings. If you put "keyboard" into the Windows search you should find where to set the "repeat rate".

I have not looked into this, yet, after all those years. ^^

I have found some things, woox quotes:

one thing i noticed is that after ive re-loaded and done nines and aks multiple times over and over, the skip become real easy to do and 100% consistent, but after i restarted the game everything changed back

Consistency probably comes down to how much extra frames u insert during pausebuffering which mostly depends on CPU power.

Question, why doesn't the pause buffer work on nines and aks? Like I pause buffer right when he starts to talk and it doesn't skip his dialogue

AFAIK the dialogue starts right after you destroy the bottle. I'm not 100% sure on how the schematics of all this work out, but I would assume that it would be a frame perfect trick to pull off. Again, I'm not sure though, better to get someone else's opinion on it.

Some totally dumb backup strat that shows that the script timer 32@ (TIMERA) can be slowed down to about 3% (1/30). (400ms at 0:13 to 1500ms at 0:49, ergo 1.100s / 36s = 1/30

A trick that works similarly (it is used for duping setups, rapid pausing/unpausing to extend fades) can be used to get a call before the second FIAB instance ends, giving another om0 call for Misappropriation. It might be inconsistent, though (the mission could finish before a call can come in), I have had failures on different hardware.

Optimizations: Hold Esc and as soon as the "mash delay" is over ("mash delay" explanation: it takes some time for the OS to spam Esc for you, just as it takes time for the OS to spam letters for you when you hold them - try holding J for example) skip with a mouse button so that Esc is not dropped. If it is then you need to press it again and wait out the delay, wasting perhaps half a second or so of call time, I do not know.

In my last run I used the post FIAB om0 call strat but then I fucked up the timing on Black Project because I arrived 2 minutes earlier at the marker, I tried using vigilante to keep the om0 call and save at the airport but for some reason it wasn't working as expected (maybe due to 0¤ glitch?) so I just waited and lost time there Kappa

If you don't want to do the same mistake, it's probably best to set the time before Don Peyote so you won't lose time.

Based on my pace, I should save to get any time between 00:00 and 06:00 before starting Don Peyote to get the right time when I arrive at the BP marker.

Vigilante only spawns cars

You can still salvage it by saving during Vigilante. The concept is the same as for "NRG" after 0¤ glitching.

  1. Get a cop car
  2. Get a criminal spawn by driving near an unlocked area
  3. Save
  4. Get&hold a call
  5. Cancel Vigilante
  6. Start BP

¤ (they wrote a whole bunch of code for that, rather than using something like "forbidden zones" or whatever. They might well have messed something up, so there is a slim chance that they messed up. :D1

Changes to the GTA:SA leaderboard

The GTA:SA community has been deteriorating over a long period of time. Many top runners are not currently present on the leaderboard. This issue has not been seriously addressed yet, but an attempt will be made to remedy it now.

As of this news post, the San Andreas leaderboard will function in
