Gex 3 PS1 Wrong Warp Setup?

Ok, sounds great :D I timed the PS save wrap from collecting the bonus coin in the training area of Mission Control (when doing the safe route) since the PS save wrapping is much slower then the N64, so here are my times:

With Savewrapping 20.51 seconds

Without Savewrapping 21.39 seconds

I will do a practice test run of this category and get back to you. How do you do the Slappy Valley clip setup? Do you want us to work on routing the PAL version route as well? :)

When did you start and end timing for the bonus coin in Mission Controll? Because we also have to get the remote. I think this would be the best strat for PS1 (It's also best for N64, but it's even more worth it on PS):

I'll upload a setup of the slappy valley clip, but there are actually different ways of doing it :D I'll just upload my favorite.

And for PAL, I don't even know if I should play on PAL console. I mean, I don't have the NTSC version right now, but Gex' movement seems so slow in PAL for some reason. I don't know if it just seems like that, but maybe I could play the NTSC version on emulator for now (It would loose about 3 seconds on every Level/Loading zone entry compared to PS2 FDS, so there is no advantage for that).

I start the timing when I collect the bonus coin and end the time when I collect the collectable to open the Lake Flaccid door up. Thanks for showing me this Wreck Room video and making a video for the Slappy Valley clip :) I did a practice run and everything seems to be going great. I found nothing to be improved on. :P That is interesting about the PAL version. I wonder if this category can sub the N64 Any% No Item Duplication time. :)

I think it would be best to time from when you clip OoB at the Funky Town Door, at least if we also time the method with first collecting the coin and then the remote :)

I think PS1 Any% definitely has a chance to be faster than Any% No ID. But we'll see :P

Ok, here are my new times. :)

Collecting the Bonus Coin First and then the Remote then Teleport Back to Collect the Collectable 32.54 seconds

Collecting the Remote First and then the Bonus Coin then Savewrapping to Collect the Collectable 57.01 Seconds

Collecting the Remote First and then the Bonus Coin then Travel Back to Collect the Collectable 57.39 Seconds

Your strat saves about 25 seconds for the PS route :D

Nice! That's awesome :D It would also be interesting how long it would take to first collect the coin like in my video, but go In Bounds again from there and go to the remote normally? Because that might be a backup strat if you fail the fast strat by goin In Bounds at the coin.

EDIT: We could maybe then also use one clip that is shown in this video, but it's not really consistent (If it works on NTSC PS1):

Here is my time :)

Collecting the Bonus Coin First going inbounds and then Collecting the Remote then Teleport Back to Collect the Collectable 57.93

It appears that it doesn’t loose much time if you go inbounds after collecting the coin compared to getting the remote first. So I guess we should always try and attempt the fast way. What do you think about this? :) About the 2 clips in this video, the first one is consistent for me but I only got the second one once and it is really inconsistent.

Yeah, that sounds like a great idea :D You just gotta beware to not stay OoB when not getting the coin. And I guess we wouldn't use that clip then :P

Great points. Is there is anything else you could think of timing wise? :)

Would the Death TV-Cancel (Deathwarp?) in Mystery TV, that you also used in your 100% runs, safe time and if yes how much?

And after Buccanner Program we have to go back to mission controll. I think the fastest way would be to deathwarp back to the entrance of Lake Flaccid by getting hit 4 times by the TV Enemy infront of the Buccaneer Program TV, but we would also have to compare it to savewarping. I would start timing from pressing "Exit Level" in the level and stop timing when you are infront of the Slappy Valley Door.

Thanks again for putting so much time into this :P

For Mystery TV, I completed “Survive the Hedge Maze” 3 times with and without the deathwarp. While timing the deathwarp time, I only used the deathwarp only once. Timing begins when I first control Gex in the level and ends at the blackout when Gex goes in the TV a third time.

With Deathwarp: 1:51.63 Without Deathwarp: 1:56.49

So this deathwarp saves around 5 seconds. Here are my other times for the deathwarp in Lake Flaccid.

With Deathwarp: 29.53 Without Deathwarp: 22.74

So that deathwarp looses around 7 seconds. I’m glad that I could help you out with all of this, it have been fun for me :D

Awesome! So it takes 22 seconds if you Savewarp?

Btw, I upload the Slappy Valley Clip Setup right now :P Are you gonna record a run of this route sometime? That would be awesome :D

Yeah it takes 22 seconds when I savewarp. Thanks so much for uploading the clip setup too. I already attempted the setup multiple times and it was consistent, great set up! :D

As for recording a run, I don’t plan on running this category until I get more practice with WW, so it could take a while to complete a full run but I will try. I can easily post a video of the current route that goes all the way up to the WW or even a segmented run though. What do you prefer? :)

To have a video of the route all the way to WW would be great to have! :) Although a full run would be "better", it would still be awesome to have a video everyone can look at to learn the route (until WW). Just do runs if you feel like you want to do some :P

Maybe I could combine your WW videos with my future video to have a video as a guide of some sorts so that we can have a video that shows the whole run? I’ll of course give you credit. :)

For sure, that sounds great if you want to do that! Should I upload (maybe not listed) the 1st Setup that I found, which is apparently the only one that works on NTSC Console, again one time without text that is showing on the video? Or send it to you somehow? Just if you need it :)

Thanks! :D Uploading to YouTube without the text is great for me. But I’m thinking that I could put in both the PAL and NTSC version WWs in the video just on case if there are any PAL runners. I will state which one is best used for each version. What are your thoughts about this? :)

I guess there is one WW that just works for the NTSC version and another one that works for PAL, PAL Emulator, and NTSC Emulator?

That sounds great :) And yeah, the first Setup I found apparently works on NTSC Console and NTSC Emulator. The newest I found works 100% consistent on PAL Console, NTSC Emulator and probably PAL Emulator.

Also, what remote do we get again in Tut TV? :)

EDIT: Here is the NTSC WW Setup without Text:

Ok, thanks :P We are going for the “Ride the Camel to the Ancient Temple” remote in Holy Moses. By the way, I can’t jump to the higher ledge of Slappy Valley when collecting the first bonus coin at all. I tried to jump again and again, even with tailwhipping, but it doesn’t work for me. So without jumping to the ledge, I timed myself compared to a new route and it appears that the new route is faster. The new route is going straight to Mythology Network, and then collect the 3 bonus coins in Slappy Valley without savewarpping. Thoughts? :)

Yeah, that jump doesn't work at all on PS. And collecting the coins after Mythology Network sounds great, haven't thought about that before :P

N64 Rules Update

Hey everyone. There have been a few rules updates/clarifications, mostly regarding N64 categories.

  • [N64] Item duplication is now allowed in No Wrong Warp, No TV-Cancel and All Remotes. It remains banned in 100% and No Item Duplication, as it would defeat the purpose of those categories.
