AustraliaI wanted to start up this thread that will allow everyone to put their opinions in on a topic that a few people have complained about to me in the past. Namely, the use of the hacker suit/ the foam finger in Dead Space 2 NG+.
Right now, both these items are allowed, and a number of runs use them. The issue is, the items aren't legitimately available on the platforms the runs are on(Looking at you PC).
The Hacker suit is the main offender, as it is only available by having a save from Dead space: Ignition on the consoles hard drive. This is not possible to get on PC. As such, its my opinion that this item be banned for all future runs of Dead space 2 NG+, at least on PC.
The Foam finger is obtained by beating the game on hardcore. On PC, the item will not unlock due to a glitch. It is possible to obtain on PC were it not for this glitch, and i hear theirs a way to circumvent this glitch by doing the whole run without opening the menu or something. I'm not sure if this item should be banned or not, and i'm open to opinions.
No runs currently on the leader board will be affected by any rule changes from this thread. I will hold off on making any decisions on this until i hear the opinions of some of the other runners.
This will also keep us healthier as we will get heals during the route
Ive found this cool new timesave. While your character is falling asleep, you can still do actions, so if you teleport while falling asleep, you don't take fall damage from a fall if you fall. So, you can save some time by shooting a disc out of bounds to a warp point i.e ice path, sleep and teleport while you fall asleep. Note: you cant be crouched when you try to sleep cause it wont let you sleep. Edit: turns out that clicking thing I mentioned doesn't work, its just that sleeping for less time ends the sleep screen faster.
In addition to this, i have trimmed down the categories, we will make use of the platform system on the site instead of separating pc and console runs into completely separate categories. This reduces the mess of categories that was there before, and allows us to add more if needed.
Okay, ive messed around with this more, this is what ive found:
- it seems to only works on 60 fps
- works the same way between both injured chocobo and healed chocobo
- Jumping onto a platform that lightning slides off of and doing the trick does not give lightning a new jump
- doing the garb change on a ladder does nothing normally and will finish the movement if lightning is moving up or down the ladder
- Doing the garb change during the animation to get off the top of the ladder makes lightning reappear above the ladder and fall
- Doing the garb change on a pipe you can slide down makes her let go and fall
As per suggestions, i am opening this thread to discuss and codify the rules for different categories of Dead space 3.
First off are the obvious rules:
- New game must be played off of a new save file
- New game must not use (for either parts, resources or full use) DLC or unlock items such as the Devil horns
- New game + can use whatever weapons and suits, be they DLC or unlocks
- Timing is Real time, not IGT
- The whole run must be timed and on camera, time starts when you gain control in the prologue, and ends at the end of the finale quick time event in chapter 19.
- Co op runs must have video for both players
- New game +, classic, pure survival and hardcore modes must be done using the appropriate feature in the new game + screen, and selecting a new save file
- 100% requires 100% completion of every chapter as shown on the completion details screen in chapter select, as such, 100% must be done in co op.
- Max% requires the highest completion percentage on every chapter that can be done solo
- Max% must be done solo
- The Ev1l_nz Nexus skip is banned, as it is not repeatable on other graphics cards, the trick i am referring to is here:
I am not making any of these up on the spot, these have been around before the game was added to speedrun.com
I will add to this list as discussion is had, and once agreement is reached, i will update all categories
I dont know if this would be useful, but if you are on the chocobo and jump, if you change your main schema in mid air and spam jump as you leave the schema, you can stop the fall for a moment. It would be tough to do, but it may be able to skip fully healing your chocobo with this. If you do this without a chocobo, Lightning replays her jump sound and ive gotten her to jump again like twice, that may be because she was just jumping off of the ground though.
