Still doesn't allow insanely optimized short games because too short.
while same ELO prevents super mario bros. rom hacks because they are "too short" despite even shorter rom hacks exist. Please let communities decide what is and isn't allowed.
rant over.
So what made SRC finally crack and accept this game? I wanted to submit a solo run, but I was advised against it because everyone else that tried to get this game added failed.
Just saying. I tried to and was rejected.
I'm doing some research and I would like to know when SRC was created or founded.
Allow the search bar to actually "search" instead of just popping up everything at once. Click a magnifying glass to just bring up a separate page of everything.
correction: Tetris puts line or level limits, though they do have a 300k point category. but yeah, point limit LBs should be kept to reasonable amounts expected for the game. 300; is chosen for Tetris because that gets you the best "rocket ship" screen.
https://www.speedrun.com/news/667-2021-4-8-the-4-55-barrier-broken-in-super-mario-bros
the article begins as follows "Speedrunner Niftski broke the 4:55 barrier in Super Mario Bros. on April 7. The previous record has stood since September 2018."
Correction: the previous record was set on Feb. 4 2021 by Miniland
Later in the article, its correctly states: "For comparison, the last second barrier to be broken was back in September of 2018, with Kosmic’s 4:55.913."
I'm guessing the writer got the two mixed up in his head.
if a game is endless, you should probably set up a goal like a point amount. like tetris does. that's a theoretically endless game, so score limits are placed on runs.
There are games that are so un-notable, yours truly is killing the leaderboard in one game and feels really lonely. no competition.
While we are on the topic (sorta) of highlighting speedrunners, can we get a follow feature for runners as well as games? And maybe a toggle on the homepage to switch between them? I think it would really help especially for those that don't, or can't, watch their stream all the time. I personally would love that feature since I can focus on them instead of being forced to follow every single game they run.
EDIT: a topic search bar for the forums would also help. I emphasize "topic" search so the results dont search every single word in the posts.
If games are inactive for a very long period of time and never get run, is there any chance that SRC staff would remove it from the site? Probably a dumb question and one I'm sure has been asked before.
Kosmic's NES is modified to have better video outputs. Exactly what kind of outputs he uses I'm not sure, but I think it's something like RGB component or composite. I don't think he uses HDMI because he has to use a TV that gives no input lag (like CRT). LCD's, which usually use HDMI, have terrible input lag.
Modifying a console like this requires someone with excellent knowledge of the inner workings of the console. Chances are you can find someone in the Speedrun community that can do it for a price.
