Marco Pololaan 8, 3526GJ, Utrecht

Dates
The marathon will take place in the weekend of 13 - 16th of May 2016.
Awesome Space is booked for the F-Zero meet from Friday May 13th 7pm to Monday May 16th 7 pm.

Marathon stream will run from Saturday May 14th to Sunday May 15th 2016

Marathon objective
The main goal of the marathon is for F-Zero players to meet and have fun! Last year’s online F-Zero Marathon was a great success. Now, we would like to organize a big F-Zero marathon where as many players as possible can meet. This will be a great opportunity for multiplayer sessions and even whole tournaments to be put on stream!

F-Zero X Expansion Kit owners: this will be the perfect opportunity to exchange tracks with other players!

Run Submissions
The type of runs for the stream can be anything from 4 player multiplayer to time attack sessions. Anything F-Zero related is welcome.

If you would like to contribute a run to the stream make sure to contact the organizers with the type of run and a good estimate of the run time. If possible include your personal best time for the run.

All F-Zero games are welcome to the marathon, including popular hacks such as F-Zero X Climax.

Update 19-01-2016

After some feedback the date for the event is now final. The venue has been reserved for the weekend of 13 – 16 May 2016.

This date was chosen because Monday the 16th is a holiday in many countries including The Netherlands so that should make it easier for people to attend and deal with traveling. We also try not to conflict with other speedrun marathon events.

Marathon stream will run from Saturday May 14th to Sunday May 15th.

If you would like to attend the event you can register and submit runs you like to contribute by contacting me directly. You can also send an email to fzeromarathon (at) gmail.com

Additional note for people that can’t make it to the event:

There will be a limited number of slots available for remote streamers that would really like to contribute to the marathon. For example, as participants in a race with people on site.

There will be some hours in the night (TBD) CEST+1 that will be free. We cannot monitor those hours as of now as this is only a small event run by a small group of people. If anyone is willing to volunteer that can manage tech issues in those hours to make those slots available for remote runners that would be fantastic. We can provide some tech guidelines to help out with that as well before the marathon. Otherwise we will do our best to run a highlight reel of some noteworthy F-Zero runs during those hours.

Sounds like a plan!

Though I suck at the games, I might be interested to be the "golden troll". 2 vs 2 mode where one team races vs the other team aiming to kill in order to win. Might be a thing to check out!

Updated the first post. If you'd like to attend the event please let me know soon.

Can I come over even if I don't actively play F-Zero anymore?

  WMJWMJ

BuMf00d: Yeah sure you're welcome to drop by if you like.

One remark however is that I am still currently trying to arrange a mass housing for sleeping during the event. I do have a certain back-up for that in case it doesn't work out but it's quite limited in space so in that case I can't promise you a sleeping spot (yet).

Hi WMJ, I saw the original post @ F-Zero Central. I'm an F-Zero fan, though not a pro player, and would like to come down, meet some of the people of the F-Zero community and watch some of the runs, if that's ok with everyone. I had this idea of maybe writing up a small article based on my impressions of the event and the community and then see if I can find any gaming sites interested in the story. F-Zero is an underrated franchise and deserves some more attention imo. Let me know what you think of that.

Also, I was wondering if there still is sleeping space available. I live in Belgium, so I could drive back and forth if I decide to stick around, but sleep-over would be more convenient.

  WMJWMJ

To come back to my earlier reply to BuMf00d on the matter, you're most definitely welcome to attend the event. We had registration in the past so I could anticipate how many would be sleeping over.

The sleeping arrangement I was going for initially didn't work out so now the sleeping will be at my house. Actually me, Meridian and KVD share the house so at the moment there will be 11 additional people for certain sleeping over. With you and BuMf00d included it would be 13. We've had 10 people stay over in the past which is tight but possible. I think 13 is just about possible if we work together and try to make it fit in the living room and upstairs area but it will be a tight fit. Most likely we can make it work. I'm also not sure if all the Dutch attendends intend to sleep over because if not it would make things easier as well.

That said my house is about a 10 min drive away from the venue. So far we've not been succesful in arranging enough cars (we have 1 or 2) to transport easily. If you come with a car that would be very helpful to make that work out better. For now the plan is to just share a taxi with 4 people but we may be able to keep that to a minimum as well with some more cars.

As for writing an article about it, sounds great the more attention for F-Zero the better 🙂.

Alright, thx for the hospitality man. I'll see how it works out with the sleeping arrangement. If not I can always look for a youth hostel or something if I don't feel like driving back. Was planning on coming by car anyway. We can fit 5 people in there and it has a pretty big trunk for stuff to transport.

I'm reserving the weekend for this, so I'll most definitely be coming down (unless something really important intervenes). I take it from your F-Zero central post you guys'll be at the venue on friday starting 7pm. Looking forward to this. Cheers

(ps. ik spreek ook Nederlands)

I've put the image in my Twitch bio and I'll make sure to put it on stream too when I'm streaming practice!

WMJWMJ likes this.

That's great, if possible make it link to the twitch page: twitch.tv/fzerocentral. For some reason I can't seem to make it work on this forum but it worked fine in other places.

Just a little question:
How is the equipment over here btw ?
Are there enough GCs, N64s etc. and F-zero X/GX copies ?

  WMJWMJ

We have enough consoles, games, controllers, cables etc. for at least the stream setup.

For now I think we have 3 NTSC N64 consoles (2 with 64DD and 2 Expansion Kits needed for the stream). We have at least 2 copies of PAL GX. More than 2 PAL Gamecube + GBA players. A few Super Famicoms as well. I'm not sure about GBA's but there will be at least 2 given away as prizes around.

For one I recommend everyone to bring their own favorite controllers, especially if you have a scheduled run. If you want to be sure of a practice console it doesn't hurt to bring your own + game. There's plenty of tv's for the event around. Awesome Space mostly has PAL equipment so for N64 it would be nice to have at least one more NTSC for practice/whatever. I'm not sure if either Daniel or Philippe will bring their 64DD but I have 2 at home at least so for the stream we're good to go. If you'd like to play GBA multiplayer just bring your own + game since it's portable anyway.

Make sure to label everything that you bring clearly as there will be tons of controllers and games around.

  E_DragonE_Dragon

I guess I will bring my 2 copies of PAL GX and a PAL GC myself then. Just to make sure we don't run out 😉
