Emulators: I'm personally okay with Regen and Kega as stand alone emulators. I'm not familiar with Mac or Linux, but adding "retroarch with genesis gx plus core" as an option. Retroarch is by far the best emulator out there for Sonic speedruns, and if its not your cup of tea we have the other 2 allowed options as well. I just think the list needs a re-wording is all. More specific.

Input Viewers: I think having an input viewer on emulator could be a nice compromise for the "soft reset" change (below) and the framecounter discussion (below). thing is, how resource heavy are they? If somebody doesn't have a powerful PC i'd hate to not allow them from being verified because their PC cant handle an emulator, a capture program, AND an input viewer. just something to think about. I need more info on this, however i'm slightly leaning towards required for emulator. edit: i have been told its not very resource heavy. again, this may be a good compromise for the other rule changes then. worth discussing.

Livesplit: I'm against the required .lss file. If someone submits something suspect, we can always ask for the file without it being a requirement. maybe making a note that a mod may request such a thing and to have one handy.

framecounter: it would be a good tool to have for verification purposes, i do agree there. however i'm firmly against it.

hard reset: even if having an input viewer is decided to be not required, i believe a soft reset is just as valid as a hard reset in this specific context. if we as mods need to look at a soft reseted run more closely, so be it. its a pain in the ass for not only retroarch users, as well as people who use the Sonic Classics cart (sonic 2) rom on any other emulator. I'm obviously 100% for showing the reset in its entirety.

Save file: more info on this is needed, but as it stands could be relaxed. so far it has shown to be a negative to start from an already started file (an outdated new CN2 strat). im not sure this rule needs changing.

grandfathering: If any rule changes should take place, we need to grandfather all verified runs prior to the change in as valid. Obviously post-rejecting a run strictly based on these rule changes alone would not be fair.

yes Mathew. the trial period ended. there was not enough support to keep the category around, at least separate from the main category.

mods do this in free time. thats all i have to say.

exactly what lunkhead has said. sonic ILs have a long history behind them. (they may even predate single segment runs)

Hello. I am looking to improve my time in this game the next few months and am looking for as many written resources or video tutorials i can get my hands on. Are there any not already posted here (the outdated ones). Im not above learning from leaderboard videos mind you, but some of the skips look a tad tricky. Thanks in Advance.

yes. exactly what lunkhead said here. you are activating the air cap. try to release the dpad whilst in the air and press it again once you land to keep your speed.

you are allowed to use in fullscreen, as long as you show the "hard reset" in the PB vid, you are fine.

i would highly recommend against it. there is nothing officially banning it. however sound is important for verification purposes and if we cannot verify the audio we may have to reject the run if say the video drops frames (looks like splicing ect) or other unforeseen issues arise. i would even go as far to say its an "unofficial rule" to have game audio with the run itself. nothing is stopping you from doing a local recording with just game audio and have music on stream.

it opens a slippery slope to allow hacks in runs. the rule should remain black and white. i understand your point however.

hello all. i am interested in adding this game to my list of genesis games i would like to run. i always start off by watching runs on the board for fun. it appears the twitch links are broken for most of the top runs on here. is there anyway someone can provide me youtube (or twitch) links to these runs? id appreciate any help you guys can offer. thankyou

as oldclov said, regen and fusion are allowed. either will work fine. i recommend whichever works best with your PC / vid capture setup

the short of it is 100% (or best ending) has not been ran by many people. the lack of speed tech in the special stages certainly plays into that. please do not let a lack of a leaderboard stop you from running 100%. i would actually encourage you to do so.

afaik there hasnt been any discussions to add emulators to the "allowed" list. unfortunately being accurate is only a part of the issue.

Another point we must consider is: this game is VERY "special". Accidentally clipping through objects intended to be solid is a very real possibility, even while trying to avoid it. By the proposed rules, this would void the run. doing a 100% "glitchless" play-through of this game can be quite improbable considering the higher the speed sonic moves, the funkier things tend to behave. I am not against a glitchless category myself, but throughout the extensive community discussions already on this topic, I do not see it happening.

www.soniccenter.org has the IL boards. Speedrun.com only has the full game runs for sonic 2.

Fantastic work! This is amazing. Thank you so much for making an Any% TAS. From my understanding of the game, there isn't a single way to make this faster. 11:02 appears to be the absolute endgame.
