@EvilDoesGames Hello! Sadly this event has passed, sorry for the super late response. If you join our speedrun discord though then you will be notified the next time a tournament happens :)
Hello,
The new change to the leaderboards has just been released and with it we wanted to move the order of our variables for SRB2 Category Extension since the character names are to be in alphabetical order. After finding it and trying to save it is saying "Value URL is missing" but I'm not sure what URL it is that it's talking about. Is this a known problem or will this be fixed going forwards?
It's not that "runners had to cap" the game, the only way prior to this update to have interpolation was to run on a non-official client. That's no longer the case however non-official clients are still banned. addition I didn't add it here but yes you can now run RTA with uncapped but only on the official 2.2.11 client.
As for the changes in 2.2.11, they are pretty small so will probably not make a huge deal. The biggest 2.2.11 change for the RTA speedrun is apparently now the DSZ3 boss no longer casts a shadow, and ERZ1 is faster now. We didn't create a separate category back in 2.2.8 for the last version containing the Hyperwall glitch and I don't think we'll be making one now for something a lot smaller. If some significant change happens like a full revamp or addition of a stage though then there will be a new category.
Hope that helped your question but feel free to ask here or in our discord (probably better, this site sucks for sending updates)if you have any more questions. :)
Hello all,
This will be my last post on this page as a moderator. Me, Lemin, Refrag and Ors, have all decided to move on from the world of moderation. It could not be on greater terms, though! We've loved seeing people improve in this community, find out crazy strategies and just having a good time, which is the most important thing we could've asked for in any community.
The moderation team will be a lot smaller going forwards. Please give the new team the time and respect they need to get through this. Also don't forget that the team is looking for appropriate candidates to help in moderation, if you think that is you then please reach out to any of the remaining moderators! It will be most appreciated.
This community has been around almost 9 years! 5 if you include the dedicated SRB2 Speedrun discord linked on this page. It's been an incredible time, could not have asked for a warmer place to be around and I am so glad we got to see it get to this point.
Take care of yourselves. All the moderators who come after us remember our old ways of being: don't slave away to being a moderator. This is a volunteering position, to help the community, but not something you need to stress over. That was my job ;) but yeah make sure you look after yourselves as number 1 and the rest will follow. Thanks everyone :)
I hope so, would make moderation at a large scale really, really nice.
Hello!
Thanks everyone who submitted runs to our impromptu Google Docs sheets and I am sorry for the wait. This has been a long time coming and I'm happy to finally be able to present our new Board which will be the main hub for all things modded characters and some things category extensions.
We're aware that the board doesn't look as straight forward as it could so I made this tutorial which will hopefully help you all when it comes to submitting runs and seeing all available runs on our page.
Please disregard all the old links and use this one primarily as it will be easiest for us. When submitting, if your character is not listed and you need to enter their name manually then please link their Master Board link (we won't accept other links at this time) and attach your lump file with some sort of hosted link like Google Docs or the auto hoster we have in our discord server.
Thanks all and any questions please ask :) However best to ask in our Discord as sadly this doesn't always send me the alert that someone's responded. Take care y'all!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/19gU8lZ54R1q6LX89xbRCKEXZPaBiK5F9/view?usp=sharing This is an image for clarity. Since the main SRB2 boards have some variables that do not want to be associated with Any% and so forth we had to make 6 independent filters for every single individual category where it pertained. Which is just unnecessary. We could just have the 1 variable with a checklist of what categories it should apply itself to. We have much larger variables in our category extensions that'd ideally fit this and I imagine a lot of boards would want this, too. Please can something be done?
Hello,
As the setting stands, to create a variable when you set up leaderboards it can apply to "Full Game, All Levels, Full Game and All Levels" which is fine, however if you apply to "Full Game" your only options are "All Categories" or one particular category. It's hard to get stuff to be set up conveniently like this as some categories wouldn't have every variable (Such as a category for one of our games extensions which would only want character Sonic as a small example). It just messes up the convenience when you have, in our case, a lot of variables for different runs as we can't just exclude it from that board, we'd need to painstakingly re add every single one of those variables.
Seeing as Ultimate mode can never give rings then this self imposed restriction on running that can't easily be monitored or mitigated or easily avoided by restarting at a checkpoint near the end doesn't, in my eyes, serve as a very interesting run. You can feel free to run this, self imposed things in games are surely fun and some games really take that to the extreme but yeah I don't think anyone would do this.
Hello! I'm not sure what you mean by replay viewer, where did you download it from and what are you trying to do? If you wish to view your replays you go into time attack and play back your fastest replay, if it's someone else's replay then put that replay into your SRB2Kart folder and use the command "playdemo <filenamehere>.lmp" without the parenthesis present in the console menu by using the tilde key on the main menu
The problem is it doesn't offer anything great to either the Sonic or Tails story. It's pretty much dead all things considering for human level speedrunning.
You can feel free to run as Sonic & Tails, and I'm sure if it's fun for yourself it'll be cool, but it's just one of the many things that offers nothing to the run.
Other instances of things not offering anything are versions of the game, as there are of course an overwhelming amount of them including demos. There's also "all levels" runs or similar. These in their own right can be fun and or enjoyable but they're not really competitive within the game.
A Sonic & Tails Speedrun wouldn't be faster than just running through the game as Sonic for instance as you can only feasibly fly upwards, and I say this because competitively it will just be Sonic's story retextured which is a big part of what we look for in making categories.
Thank you for the suggestion, it's a cool one, but it's not something we haven't considered.
O.D.W. got to love the fact we've had no response in any rational form. You'd think it'd do less harm to at least disable commenting until they came to a consensus but there's nothing happening and now people are allegedly posting heavy NSFW to run comments. I don't know why I expected anything of posting but it seems that poor decision making and ELO go hand in hand at this stage given all of our terrible site changes up to this stage.
Someone just informed me of another little bit of info that's been overlooked and it's that yeah sure, a user could alert us to hateful comments being posted on their run but what can we, as normal moderators, do to normal users on this site? Like we can't ban them from commenting, we only have the power to delete but it doesn't stop mass spam of any sort. Is this what ELO wants, to be overloaded with work because only their site mods can ban people? It just seems way too fragile and not thought out in every regard.
@Pentaghast Most speedruns are uploaded to YouTube, you know... A site with comments... Just irks me to no end.
Hello,
I understand the decision to make a change like this can be deemed as cool or whatnot but we did a few test comments on one of our games and the moderators don't get informed at all about new comments, so we now need to manage moderating both runs and comments which we can't see (which is infinitely harder with 180 categories like Sonic Robo Blast 2's IL's) so can we please just be given the option to opt out of comments for boards we moderate? I don't like the idea of someone posting something hateful where I won't see it but it may still impact the original poster and I think that the boards that opt in should be given a separate notification system for comments being left as it will of course clog up what notifications come in already being runs submitted, forums posted etc.
Thanks and hopefully this comes to fruition. Just feel like this system is far too fragile, unfortunately.
Yeah feel free to resubmit, we can mark the first as a dupe submission it's not a problem ^^
@SparkleTron Great! Due to some stuff happening rn I've not been actively updating the list but don't let it keep you from submitting, it definitely helps to get as many submissions as possible to know that it has the requirement from the community.
I think the very swift and panicked state of the people when they saw this update without any clarity from SR.C should show Elo that there truly isn't any trust left on this platform. Many communities bundled together to say that too many bad updates in a row was enough and showed that leaving wouldn't be a bad thing for many communities. I really hope Elo takes that in and tries to make the site better and shows a lot more transparency otherwise I believe that lots of communities, including my small one, will take this elsewhere.
