As I say you're perfectly entitled to speedrun what you want, I just don't personally see the point in this. This is kinda like when people 'speedrun' World of Warcraft by getting to cap level, yeah you can technically DO it, but... Why? Not my thing.

EnglandDrakodan8 years ago

Outside of game mechanics:

  • There is no easily practicable way to stream Pokemon GO live without putting in a lot of money and effort as I understand it, so you would be heavily encouraged to do this without streaming.

  • This would be entirely subject to server stability, which is never guaranteed.

  • You would not be able to do this single-segment without using power banks since you can't even get enough battery life out of any existing device to do this in one session. Unless you're playing on PC and GPS spoofing, in which case what is even the point?

tl;dr it's not just the nature of the game and mechanics that make this a dumb idea in my eyes. Some games just aren't MADE for speedrunning.

There's a phrase that many in speedrunning conveniently forget:

Just because you CAN speedrun a game, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I shouldn't really need to explain why this is a stupid idea, and whilst I obviously can't stop you from doing what you want and you can run whatever you want, don't be surprised when nobody else takes you seriously.

Glitchless is not going to happen in this game, purely because of how difficult that would be to define. If you were to make a case for "No Level Wraps", then you might have more of a case, but it's still probably not going to get implemented.

With all due respect, I don't think anything else submitted in this thread compares to Fast FR skip as of yet. At least with these other skips, you can practice the execution and you know what you're aiming for, rather than literally just hoping that part of the game fails to function correctly, which is virtually random with our current understanding.

Freedom Planet also has its share of fucking dumb skips, largely because the extra-dumb ones, like in Final Dreadnought 2/4 rely entirely on subpixel rounding. And by that I don't mean that you still have a decent chance to hit them, I mean that in FD2, you need to do a really precise maneuver against a box without breaking said box, and then even if done correctly you only have a 30~% chance to activate the zip. FD4 is even worse, since you stand on the single correct pixel that works for a specific zip, and just... Hope it works. Subpixel rounding on this skip makes it approximately 4% likely to occur, even when on the correct pixel.

tl;dr, step up your bullshit skips game. Anything that's purely execution based and doesn't rely on randomness cannot fairly be put in the same category of scary, especially when these skips all exist at the very end of extremely difficult runs.

Well, this is ONE way to go about not getting what you want.

Fast Final Rush skip in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is pretty far up the Fucking Dumb scale.

Assuming you're on WR pace, the run is 35~ minutes of incredibly tight execution, skips and tricks with a very small margin of error, tricks that save 1-2 seconds and cost far more if you get them wrong, and also very unforgiving RNG.

Then you reach Final Rush and attempt to save 10 seconds by throwing yourself at a killplane and hoping it doesn't load correctly.

I wish I was joking.

The new layout is causing severe problems in Sonic Adventure 2. This game now uses IGT as the primary timing method, but SRcom is choosing to display Realtime, and now whenever someone PBs by IGT but has a slower RTA run, it will not update the time on the board, and simply claim that their old, faster RTA time is Obsolete.

This really needs fixing ASAP.

Right click game in Steam > Properties > Beta

If there are options there, you're in luck.

If you're serious about learning this game, I highly recommend joining the community Discord and getting in on races when able to, especially Centurion races. I'll add the Discord link to the Guides section here since it's now a public server.

You let the game play itself.

Bought Rocket Knight for about 5 dollars, started running it, tied WR after 5 days.

Got my money's worth IMO.

AYC is the closest thing that Undertale has to a 100% category, and thus I believe it should remain a main category on that basis.

A universal ban on modifications would objectively be the best thing for the game, and I say that as someone who stands to lose out from such a change, as my Power of NEO music is modded. If that means my times are voided and I need new PBs, so be it.

All games should have at least two mods. Self-verification is something that should be avoided whenever reasonably possible.

Contact has been made, and I'm a mod, consider the case closed.

The IGT is now there specifically because I requested it in my submission notes.

He still hasn't responded to my attempts to contact him via Twitter, by the way.
