Techniques Used in Speedruns

We use a few different techniques in speedrunning Teardown. If you don't know the name of something, or want to try a new strategy, make sure to refer to this!

#Glitchless Techniques (Exploits):

  • Boardwalking: Quickly stringing together planks while walking/jumping along them to traverse in a desired direction. This is useful for crossing large gaps or gaining height quickly.
  • Hinge Break: Breaking a door off its hinges by throwing it while it's still attached to the door frame. This works on both locked doors and unlocked doors.
  • Plank Boosting: Using a plank as a catapult by standing on it, jumping and flicking it upwards.
  • Vehicle Throwing: Picking up and throwing the remains of a vehicle then immediately sitting in it so you essentially throw yourself.

#Glitch Techniques:

  • Grab Clip: Holding onto an object will disable it's collision with the player. This can be utilized to clip through anything the player is able to grab.
  • Prop Flying: Standing on an object and pulling it towards yourself, making you fly. The object has to be set up in a way so that it keeps it's collision when grabbed. This can be done by either attaching a plank to any light object or using a specific type of object that consists of two parts.
  • Vehicle Teleportation: When you exit a vehicle, the game attempts to find a valid position to move you to, if it can't it will sometimes teleport you up really high.
  • Zipping Getting into such condition, that the game teleports the player upwards to the closest open space available.
