Biohazard 2 PC Sourcenext Sound cut off/Crashing

my tech issues with biohazard 2 sourcenext are back after patching and im just wondering do i need to install the game every time i want to speed run it because it only seems to work as intended on a fresh install otherwise the sound cuts out or the game crashes on the final FMV , i really don't know why this version is recommended at all lol im very tempted to just go back to the PS1/gamecube versions of the game.

same happens to me but it was fine for like a year until i reformatted my PC. Since installing the game again after that i can't do a full run without it crashing/losing sound. Been looking for fixes for a long time and tried multiple different "solutions" but with no luck :( also im running win7 home edition

England

doesn't matter if it's patched or not, still the same result.

Delete the registry and completley remove RE2 and 1.1 from your pc. Torrent RevoUninstallerPro from said website (Kappa) and see if it works then. I had issues with 1.1.

England

it's happened to me now on 2 entirely different computers and i tried all the compatibility modes. The sound cuts out at the same point (different for each scenario) then at the lab the game will crash. i tried windows xp, win7 home and win7 ultimate and 3 different downloads of the game. Confusion isn't the word

Im in the same situation as StevenMayte but ive moved onto different versions now , thanks for the advice everyone, hopefully these tips will help fix someone else game.

England

the thing that bugs me is i was speedrunning the game for a long time with ZERO issues :(

Poopfist -

Find the registry entry to disable FMVs. I don't remember where to find it off the top of my head, but it should have "movies" or something in the entry. You just set it from "1" to "0" and it'll turn off FMVs. There's no problem with doing that for speedrunning, since turning off FMVs is considered a compatibility fix.

As for sound shutting off in 1.1, I usually do a hard reset of the game every attempt for that reason. If you play the game for too long, the game's sound engine just crashes and eventually you're left playing through the rest of the game without audio.

God damn Bio2 PC sucks

-carc already been doing that the entire time had a save game set up for the ada talking cutscene in the sewer on each version (1.0+1.1) i would go through and test it after i changed something in the registry (FMV's , sound freq , etc)

the only fix i can find for these problems is do a fresh install play game once , uninstall + reinstall and start new run

Just adding my two scents:

  • So far, after using 1.1, I found no further issues for myself, nor do I see any fixes. I still get lags and stutters on some FMV sequences and I generally feel like my game runs a tid bit slower. Is that possible? If I compare some areas to other runners Leon seems to be running a lot slower and it takes me longer to get through, yet FRAPS tells me It's running at 29 fps at all times. I don't know however if that is even a possibility, so if anyone knows anything about that, lemme know.

  • After installing 1.1, off course, my timers won't pick up the ingame time anymore. The older version shows "poison", no avatar and no time. The current version on the resources page shows health and the avatar, but does not pick up the ingame timer. Any way to fix this other than uninstalling everything? Otherwise I'll just run without the timer, by now I can tell if I lost time or not, judging by the run itself.

So yeah, no hardware problems on my end, just these few things gladly. What I just want to know is wether or not the game could run slower and mess up my times or if the gametime is indeed bound to the fps, and if I can fix my timer, would be nice to have it back :)

P.S. and thanks to DChaps for that huge post, very interesting to read and good to know RE2 follows the "old" rules of games, where you could actually fix stuff yourself by altering files :3

Jup, upon choosing 1.0 it goes completely crazy, choosing 1.1 results in having proper health meters but the time is stuck on 00:00:00

/// EDIT

Nevermind, I downloaded DChaps fixed exe, now eveything is back in order, seems to have reverted the whole thing to 1.0 too :)

England

so i downloaded the Exe from the resource section, the game works fine now. But i can't get any ECG'S to work any ideas? neither 1.0 or 1.1 timers work.

England

Hi guys, need a bit of help, I have just upgraded my computer to Windows 8.1 (yes its crap I know for RE2) and the game keeps lagging even though I only have the original ECG and the game running, any ideas as to the problem? Many Thanks for any help! :-D

PS I have Version 1.0 downloaded.

England

@Dchaps - I have just done a test run and it seems to run a lot smoother now thanks :-) will give it a test run on stream soon enough! Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with sound cutting out.

Checked DChaps post about going through REGEDIT and went to change the sound but apparently it's already set to 44100hz.

Should I bring it down a bit more?

Very confused.

United Kingdom

as far as i should know the game only works with 48khz and 44100khz on the sound

United Kingdom

Just tried another run and yet again was screwed up by the sound. My recording only went up until you come out the MO Disk room and you talk to Annette. The sound went and unknown to me till after the run my recording had bloody stopped!

I got a message from the bottom right hand of the screen saying - "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP (R) stopped responding and has succesfully recovered."

What??
