No it’s not mainly that it’s mostly cause there are things like lazy chunkk loading and fast math that tinker with world generation and are hard to detect

So many people keep asking this. The answer is and always will be technical stuff. It alters some technical stuff in game so it's banned. The only reason it's not banned pre 1.16 is because of the babies who will cry about not being able to run a game with their bad pc.

Lazy chunk ect is banned on all optifine, not just 1.16

There are things in the game optifine alters that cannot be switched off. Optifine should be banned for all versions but some kids buy a game and then have to use an unofficial modification to even run it and then complain that "oh my god i cant run mc without optifine!!!!" if sodium didn't exist i bet optifine would be allowed

@Saori I think that's kinda harsh. Minecraft is a pretty poorly optimized game, not everybody has the money to spend on a good PC just to play Minecraft. Doesn't make them worse runners or "babies".

Plus sodium doesn't work on all computers (like mine)

Canada

@Shmalex while Saori may be overexaggerating and for that matter not providing reliable information, they have a point. Just look at the system requirements for Minecraft and you will see.

(copied straight from https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360035131371-Minecraft-Java-Edition-system-requirements-)

CPU: Intel Core i3-3210 3.2 GHz / AMD A8-7600 APU 3.1 GHz or equivalent RAM: 4GB GPU (Integrated): Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Ivy Bridge) or AMD Radeon R5 series (Kaveri line) with OpenGL 4.4* GPU (Discrete): Nvidia GeForce 400 Series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series with OpenGL 4.4 HDD: At least 1GB for game core, maps and other files OS:

  • Windows: Windows 7 and up
  • macOS: Any 64-bit OS X using 10.9 Maverick or newer

To be honest, you literally could not get worse than what is mentioned above. If you really have a "bad" pc, it's probably already VERY old and it's time to get a new one.

In conclusion, you don't even need a good or MEDIOCRE pc to play Minecraft, you're perfectly fine with a potato pc and you'll still be able to play normally as shown in the system requirements.

edit: if u want to record gameplay using OBS or something, forget about it. Use an external video camera (this is perfectly viable), and just don't use optifine.

My friend has a garbage computer that can barely run 20 frames, not rec without optifine

Aberdeen, Scotland

@Doggo15 you can use all 3 JellySquid mods Lithium, Sodium, and Phosphor in combination with each other.

Canada

@Doggo15 again as I have reinstated before, "garbage" is a very broad term as mentioned in the system requirements above. an i3-3210 is ALREADY considered pretty garbage.

United Kingdom

yall mentioning i3 and I'm here running on AMD

United States

That is what he has amd i think

United States

@lukesswared they wont work cause i cant find the latest version

@Doggo15 it's not the speedrun community's problem people bought a game that they couldnt even run with their pc so they have to use a 3rd party modification to fix it.

Canada

@Doggo15 and @Astronomiez AMD is a company... not a model. You can't say AMD is worse than an i3 because i3 is a specific model while AMD is just a company name. Please know what you're talking about before you say it. :p

In that case, as mentioned in my post, you will still not have a cpu that is worse than what is mentioned. There is technically still no excuse for players not to be able to run Minecraft.

mfs be like "guys only optifine, master of all four framerates, could stop the lag nation" and act like sodium doesn't do anything when they've never tried it

Singapore

I have Sodium, Lithium and Phosphor all installed and I can confidently say that it is worse than Optifine. Optifine improves my frames to about 30FPS, while Sodium can only manage 20 at best. Both have settings to the very minimum. That’s the reason why I’ve restricted myself to running solely on 1.14. Until I can get a better laptop or computer, I don’t have any other option. And I think it’s selfish of you to ban optifine on pre-1.16 and kick half the people here out of the community. So you’re gonna kill your already niche speedrunning community because of runners who use optifine not for an unfair advantage but because they need it to even play properly? Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.

my phone barely gives 60 fps with optifine And if i record it gives me 45 fps or less. Without optifine I'm dead. :P
