Arbuckle Farm Any%, GIF by GIF

Hey, so you decided to start running GaHNL.

The run starts on one of the harder levels in the run execution wise. Farm gives you a crash course on elbow drop jump cancels, ledge kicks, and really goofy falling kick hitboxes.

[section=The First 3 Seconds of the Run]
At the beginning of every level in the game, there is an invisible area at the start that triggers a text box. Thankfully, there are ways to skip almost all of them. We're going to jump over the first one in the game right here.

When a level fades in, the game freezes until the animation is over. However, there are four frames during the fade in where you can input movement. To get over the first gap, simply press jump during this time. Every frame works except the very first one. The next two frames after the fade in completes also work.

While jumping to the hay bale, hold down to do an elbow drop. This is necessary, else your jump will fall short.

If your jump is going to make the hay bale, press jump just before hitting the ground. This will buffer Garfield to cancel the landing animation of the elbow drop and instantly jump.

Once you get the elbow drop jump cancel down, turn the jump into a ledge kick by pressing the kick button while rubbing up against the side of the top hay bale. This will cause Garfield to glue to the top of the hay bale and reduce the amount of time in the air. (Reminder that the fastest movement options go Grounded > Fast Jump >> Slow Jump)

After you get that mess down, jump backwards so you can collect the first egg and continue on with the stage. You can even press jump during the end of the kick animation to do a jump as quickly as possible out of the animation.

[Section=The Ladders Up to the Third Egg]
This section has a Fox guarding the way up to the third egg in the level. There's two way I've used to get past this part: a easy, slow strategy; and a hard, fast strategy.

The easy but slow strategy involves jumping on the ladder, climbing up it, and holding left and kick. This will bonk the fox so you can progress upwards. Keep in mind if you're holding up and left, you kick may not connect with the fox because this game is great.

The fast but hard strategy involves jumping onto the ladder, and jumping off the side and hitting the fox with a kick on the way backwards. This can be very fickle, but I've had success using the latter of the two coffee cups as my visual cue of when to make the first jump to the ladder. If you jump slightly before or just under it, you should be good to go for the kick after some practice getting the timing down.

[Section=Pre-Hay Bale Climb]
The section before the hay bale climb has a pretty dumb strategy if you're really looking to milk the tenths of the seconds out of the split.

If you don't want to mess with the upcoming nonsense, three simple jumps during this section are good enough until you wanna go for a really good time.

However, since you want to be on the ground rather than jumping, you can cut a jump out of this section by jumping as late as possible off of the breakable boxes and doing a downwards kick on the first fox. You can barely bop'em and save a jump. This strategy saves approximately the same amount of time as a ledge kick vs. a regular jump going up the hale bail climb, so in the grand scale of the universe it's not really worth it.

[Section=The Hay Bale Climb And The Bit After It]
Remember we used a ledge kick in the first 3 seconds of the run? Well it's time to do that 11 times in a row.

Once you get the top of the hay bales, just walk off. After you jump off of the ladder, you can buffer a jump just before hitting the ground to perfectly jump over the upcoming fence. There are little-to-no visual cues of when the ground is coming up, so it will require some trial and error practicing to get it.

[Section=The End]
Once you overlap the right edge of the final barn, three jumps perfectly sends you into the 10th egg.

And boom, you're heading to Haunted Mansion!

Basic Movement

In general, there's three different speeds you'll be traveling at during the run:
• Running speed, which is 3 pixels/frame.
• Fast jumping speed, which is 2.5 pixels/frame.
• Slow jumping speed, which is 1 pixel/frame.

[section=How Not To Slow Jump]
Since running is the fastest movement option currently known, you want to avoid jumping as much as possible. But you're gonna a have to jump over obstacles at some point in the run.

What the difference between the jumps? Well if you've played the game before, you've probably been infuriated by how sometimes your jumps lose all momentum (this can be super awful on The Circus trying to jump over the fire rings). 

Whenever you jump and the game detects you're near a solid object or wall, the game will slow the jump down. If you so much as rub up against a wall or enemy even during a fall, you will get slow jump speed. You will also get a slow jump when you walk over a ledge possibly because you start falling, and because there's the platform you just walked off right behind you as you're falling, slow jump occurs.

Slow jumps still have the same vertical speed as normal jumps, however in a game where the goal a majority of the time you're meant to go right, that's not very fast. With slow jumps being 40% slower, you're gonna want to avoid them happening as often as possible.

[section=Avoiding Slow Jumps On Stairs]
When climbing stairs, you can turn around as you start your jump, then turn back around to maintain full jump speed. This is really useful for short-stepped stairs. It does not save time for large-stepped stairs, like the Arbuckle Farm hay bail climb.

[section=Kicking In The Air]
Alright kicks are really dumb in this game, holy moley.

So, to explain, the B button makes Garfield do a kick. If you're on the ground, you're locked into the kick animation until it completes. It's really slow, and the hitbox for it is janky as all get-out. Sometimes you kick an enemy from 8 miles away, sometimes it's just a wiff machine.

However, kicking in the air is something else.

The game has a unique areal kick animation as long as you're moving upwards. As well, there's no limit to how many aerial kicks you can do. You can mash the B button to have infinite air kicks without sacrificing horizontal movement, however too many at once *severely lags the game*. That being said, these air kicks can be useful. If you kick as you're jumping up a wall or up to a platform, doing this air kick will glue you to the floor once you rub up against a ledge or go through a one-way platform. You can see it in action in the GIF below.

If you press B in the air and you're falling downwards, you do the grounded kick animation while airborne. During this, your hitbox doesn't seem to fully exist while your foot is extended. This means if you're jumping into an enemy you can kick right before hitting them to pass right though them without being bumped, and resume optimal walking speed.

Another interesting sidenote of falling kicks is that you won't grab ladders during the kick. This only works if you have fastjump speed, however. Else you will kick in place.

[section=Elbow Drops]
When Garfield is in the air and you hold down, he will begin an elbow drop. This move is meant to be used for breaking crates and ground to revel secret areas, but it has a couple of speedrun purposes - the biggest thing being skipping the text boxes found at the beginning of each level.

When you land during an elbow drop, Garfield does a lengthy animation where he impact the ground. You can instantly cancel this animation with a jump. This means all you have to do to skip text boxes is elbow drop in the area the text activates, then press jump slightly before hitting the ground to instantly start another jump.

Because you can cancel the elbow drop impact with a jump, you can avoid bouncing on trampolines you don't want to interact with.

Fighting Bosses

[section=The Bear and the Giant Cat]
Against the bear, getting the stun lock is super easy as long as you let him turn around at the start of the fight. After that, just hold L or R and run at him until he zero-frames-of-animation erases from existence.

The giant cat has some extra stuff you have to deal with before you can quickly stun lock him. First, dodge his earthquake attack by jumping before he lands, then hopefully not short jump over his ball attack. After that, shoulder barge him while his back is turned. After the first hit, you need to delay running forward a tiny bit before going in again or you'll get damaged and drop the stun-lock.

If you drop the stun lock accidentally, you can still "one-cycle" him as long as you've at least dealt two damage before dropping it and you have full health. All you have to do is hold R while moving back and fourth inside of him.

[section=The Fridge]

The Fridge is not as easy as holding R and running into a thing, sadly.

Before the Fridge launches a tentacle at you, it will flash red four times. Then it will do an attack based on its current health.

Phase one: One low tentacle. Just jump over it.
Phase two: One double tentacle. Just crouch under it.

Every phase thereafter adds a tentacle, always starting with a low tentacle, then a double.
After the tentacle attack, an enemy will be spat out the freezer. Kick the enemy into the fridge to deal a point of damage. When the Fridge has four hit points left, you're free to shoulder barge into it to deal the remaining damage necessary to defeat it.

If you don't kick one of the enemies, you can wait a cycle and have two enemies be on the screen at once. If there are already two enemies when the Fridge goes to produce another one, it does not spawn. You can skip the final phase by always having two enemies on the screen at once, then when the Fridge has six health left, kick both enemies into it before the next phase starts.
Since phase one and two only have one tentacle, it doesn't matter if you wait for two enemies on either phase.

If you're feeling super risque, you can take hit a damage from a tentacle and kick one of the two enemies into the fridge while you have invincibility frames. This can shave off another tentacle attack, just don't die doing it.

Text Skips

In every level in the game, there's an invisible area at the start that once Garfield touches it while on the ground triggers a text box. The textbox does not appear for very long, but hey, it wouldn't be a speedgame without frame perfect jumps to save half a second.

This guide will be updated as I find newer strats.

You don't trigger text boxes while in the lengthy animation that plays when you hit the ground after an elbow drop. This animation can be canceled by hitting jump, so all you have to do to skip any text in the game is elbow drop, and hit jump slightly before hitting the ground to instantly jump again without triggering the text box.

Before this was figured out though, text skips were performed using frame perfect jumps:

Farm has a pretty difficult text skip, but it saves quite a bit of time. The idea here is to skip the text box by landing on the first hay bail. You need to jump the second frame after the game unfreezes from the fade from black.

Sewers has probably the easiest text skip. Almost instantly after the level loads, hold right and jump. My visual cue is how Garfield is lined up with the grate in the background. The jump is a 2 frame window after the level unfreezes after the fade from black so you should get it every time.

This text skip is identical to Sewers; just jump a few frames after the level loads in and you should get it.

Clones has probably the most annoying text skip, since you need to perform (what I'm pretty sure is) a frame perfect jump once at the start, then once again after you loop back to the beginning after collecting the key.
My visual cue is the tile line in the floor.
