New GBA wr

The new GBA wr has been discussed by many NES runners and dr. Mario runners. That glitch seems not to Be doable in the nes version,so the best choice would Be creating a new game called dr. Mario (GBA). I cani handle that if that's ok.

There's this TAS demonstrating it on an NES emulator:

I've also triggered the glitch myself in normal play. In my attempts, and in the discussion of the TAS I linked above, it seems to be common for the glitch to lock up the machine, but it definitely doesn't happen every time, so presumably with sufficient planning you could find ways to exploit the glitch that reliably didn't lock the machine.

So that's some evidence, at least, that the glitch exists and is exploitable on the NES. What evidence do you have that the glitch is not doable?

And for what it's worth: this run appears to have learned quite a bit about how the glitch works compared to the TAS. In the TAS, once the glitch is triggered it typically clears about half the remaining viruses; inari80000 appears to have learned enough to reliably clear essentially all the remaining viruses with the glitch. That's quite an accomplishment in itself, and there are several other independent things about the video that make it impressive in my mind.

I think this glitch is quite feasible on NES, but maybe is better remove all platforms except NES, because the game is called Dr. Mario (NES). Although all these versions (WiiVC, GBA, 3DSVC, WiiUVC) are so similar that I can not even make a difference between them. @inari80000 also has beat WR Glitchless in 35:01, so we have a few options:

  1. Remove all platforms except NES.
  2. Remove WR with glitch.
  3. Do not change anything.

Maybe it's worth making a vote or waiting for more other opinions here, but at this moment I don't know what to do :( Let's wait week for a more correct solution.

Lots of games have glitchy speedruns. I guess that's usually handled by having categories that allow all glitches and categories that only allow specific glitches. Is it worth starting a separate category for this glitch? It might be: I can certainly imagine some people having more fun competing if they have to play the actual game, and I can certainly imagine some people having more fun competing by finding the fastest way to glitch through to the end.

The problem is not the glitch itself,no One here is against glitches.. it's the GBA version. Is It 100% identical to the nes One? Then ok. It's not? Then create a leaderboard

Ok, I think we must delete all runs @Serima and @evad999 too, because it's not NES. My apologies to these people and @inari80000, I hope you will be back with NES speedruns. I delete other platforms and these few runs on May 12th. Like I said we need more opinions in this matter. For example how can I check new runs with this glitch in future, if all these versions visually identical? Take on trust? :)

WiiVC is ok, is an official NES emulator. About GBA i'm waiting for other confirmations, if it's like an emulated game, then it's ok to me.

WiiUVC is an official emulated version of the NES game by nintendo. I would hope that is good enough reason not to delete Serima's as it is arguably more of an official version than the emulator.

What he said. ^ Personally, I spend a decent amount of time each week practicing and recording runs, but if WiiUVC is no longer acceptable I don't know if I'll be able to post my runs anymore. :(

Ok, I will not delete anything, but what should I do with GBA? Maybe create a new subcategorie? But in my humble opinion GBA is absolutely identical to NES so I can't see any reasons for this. It's really headache. And it's happened right at that moment when I became a moder. Lucky :)

I say create a new sub-category for this. It doesn't encourage gameplay imo and is different than a regular 0-20. Just my two cents though

Ok, tomorrow I will add a subcategory for GBA, until this game will be added to speedrun.com separately or someone finish a run with this glitch on NES. But in my opinion more correct will be create subcategories for glitchless and any%, because @inari80000 has a glitchless run in 35:01 :) But ok, GBA is GBA.

If possible, I want categories separate with glitch and 0-20. Glitchless runs do not remain in Leaderboard :'(

I just started running the game but focused on 0-10; will 0-10 also be split glitchless/any% or is that still being discussed? I would imagine the glitch is useful for some of the later stages even in 0-10.

I also noticed for 0-10 rules it still says "Play 0-20." I guess that should be "Play 0-10".
