Just got into speedrunning. Doom has been my first choice for a game to run

IHello, it's great to be here.

TL:DR: I've done a Knee-Deep in the Dead I'm Too Young To Die any% m1-7 run in 5:14 which I shall submit soon. (Ultra Violence was too hard haha) Video footage only, no lmp demo, as I ran into problems trying to record lmp demos.

I first played Doom in 1993 when I was 8 years old. I had already played Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny, which scared the crap out of me (I once switched the computer off at the wall when starting a new game of Spear of Destiny!! As the sounds of the Nazis scared me so much)

In the early 00's I discovered SDA and in particular, Quake Done Quick with a vengeance. Recently I wondered why I had never really got much into speedrunning mysef despite being so fascinated with it, so I got myself set up.

I do not have a demo of my run. The reason for that is, when I tried to put the command line parameter to record a demo, the first episode and map would instantly launch, and for some reason OBS would not immediately recognise that Crispydoom had launched, so the beginnings of my run were skipped out in the mp4 file.

So I have a run of Knee-Deep in the Dead, with a map 1-7 time of 5:14 - which I am very happy with. Not too bad considering I've spent about 10 times longer just setting up my Livesplit than playing the actual game! Haha. I just wanted to get a run down where I pulled off the map 4 shortcut jump and didn't make any huge mistakes.

I could never have anticipated how fun this has been just learning a route for this first episode and going until I got a run I was happy with. I think this puts me in about 26th place. So to say I have completed this episode only a minute and a bit behind the world record fills me with pride.

It's incredible how such an old game is still so fun. And it was a great choice of game to start speedrunning with! This has opened up a world of fun for me. So I suppose my only question is how I can record a demo without skipping out on the beginning of the video footage. If the fact I have no demo isn't an issue, then no worries.

Not quite get but you mean by "So I suppose my only question is how I can record a demo without skipping out on the beginning of the video footage. If the fact I have no demo isn't an issue, then no worries."

If you record a demo you can just submit it as a file, so that I can watch it. If you want to create your video based on your demo, I'd recommend setting up prboom+ for that purpose, better a separate one. Can't really help you how "-viddump" works, but you can google it, there should be good guide on how to make it work. This will basically output your demo as a video with nothing missing.

New moderation for Classic Doom/Changes coming soon

Hey everyone so I'm gonna make this short because I have to go to work shortly.

I was made a moderator for the Classic Doom's here on SRC, and there's going to be changes.

  1. All IL's/Episode run categories are going to be removed

This is because DSDA exists. There's no logical reason for I
