Forum: Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008

Thread: Suggestion about ruling of this game

I disagree with banning resets for all seals, I don't think it makes a lot of sense, it's a good strategy to know when is a good idea to reset when a duel is going too slow, and if you're aiming for a very good time you probably just want to reset the entire run anyway.

I agree that selecting yes might not be the best to time, so I'm open to change it, same for the last frame, will have to check which one is easier to time.

Thanks for your answer, just to clarify, there are no banlists obtainable in-game other than the default one, the only thing you can unlock is the ability to use one forbidden card in the decks you play, but there are no other banlists available unless you download them.

TLDR: I suggest we specify in the rules that you can't use the 4 non-available cards in the game, as well as only allowing the default banlist + 1 banned card.

Recently started picking this game again, and I want to suggest some stuff so we can establish rules and agree on them.

I found out that when you get a certain percentage of cards (I think 90%) the game lets you play with one forbidden card in your deck. I propose that we can use this forbidden card in decks for Stone Seal Challengue categories, since it's a mechanic of the game and they already are kind of "NG+" categories.

On the other side I know that at the time, you could download certain stuff to the game, and some stuff you could only get it by downloading it, so I recommend we ban all of those for speedrunning, mainly because it's not available anymore (Haven't actually checked but I guess it's not available anymore since the NDS services have been down for years), a lot of these are different banlists, and there might be other ways to get it into the game but I think it's better to stick with the default banlist.

Also there are 4 cards that thecnically exist in the game, but are not available to get in-game (Not sure how you could get them other than with cheat codes, maybe they were also available for download), so I suggest we forbid these cards also:
-Obelisk the Tormentor
-Slifer the Sky Dragon
-The Winged Dragon of Ra
-Thunder King

Those are my suggestions for now, I know not a lot of people are interested in this game but I'm making this post so other mods understand the reasoning behind the rules for these categories when I add them to the leaderboard.

Also I want to ask if the method of timing for the Stone Seal Challengues is good, I think it's fine as it's easy to time, but I don't know, I came up with those years ago and I'm open to change it if there is a better timing method.

Thread: Subsplits

Started by: Toad_Toad_

First of all edit your layout and make sure to use the "Subsplits" component, instead of the default "Splits".

After that, you can add subsplits, here is an example of some Mario Kart 8 splits I had:

-Mario Kart Stadium
-Water Park
-Sweet Sweet Canyon
{Mushroom Cup} Thwomp Ruins
-Mario circuit
-Toad Harbor
-Twisted Mansion
{Flower Cup} Shy Guy Falls

Basically, use "-subsplit" for the name of any subsplit, and in the last subsplit of a certain split, instead of using "-", between "{}" write the name of that split, and then the name of the last subsplit. Hope this helps.

Edit: I just realized you said "chrome livesplit", the explanation works for Livesplit, I haven't tried the web version of Livesplit if that's what you mean, but if the "Subsplit" component exists, it probably works the same way

Thread: Clip through the Floor

Started by: delcaMXdelcaMX

A few years ago I discovered that you can clip through the floor with pushing blocks, here is a demonstration:

https://twitter.com/delcaMX/status/1387448848814067715

https://clips.twitch.tv/BombasticTawdryDotterelOSsloth

https://clips.twitch.tv/StylishDiligentChimpanzeePlanking

I don't know if this glitch was known before, it might help in some stages but I'm not completely sure.

The way to do it is to push the block as close as possible to the wall, try to hang on the block and Yumi will fall to the floor if the block is close enough to the wall, then just press Jump and she will fall through the floor.

Worth mentioning that you can also clip with Ami, but you need to get the block in position with Yumi first.

You can check this thread for submition rules

https://www.speedrun.com/smw/thread/f7cr2

What you're looking for is this:

"A video and/or splits are not required, but are very heavily suggested. Runs without any sort of proof are up to the moderators’ discretion on whether they are verified or rejected. However, if a video is provided, it must be concise. That is, the video should only contain the run being submitted, and not an entire night’s broadcast for example. The run should start within 30 seconds of the beginning of the video, and the video should end after the credits or after resetting and file checking for the number of exits completed. The video should also contain the game audio. If the video supplied doesn’t meet this criteria your run may be rejected. If you do not have the capability to record video of your speedrun, consider recording your splits and submitting those."

So there shouldn't be any problem

I just checked real quick and there's not a lot of PAL runs, and out of all of them it seems that only two of them are in spanish and the other one in french, which doesn't seem to make the run any different, I'm gonna take a guess and say mods probably don't care enough about language.

Also I would advice you to stop demanding things from mods, you're demanding that they go through every run because some random thing you came with and you give no reason for.

Still the same version, when submitting times you submit it as EUR/PAL regardless of language, I don't think there is even an option to allow users to choose language of the run submitted.

Unless you mean adding different categories for each language, which I also think would be dumb.

Problem with this game is the long animations that you need to see every single time, but there are little things you can do to improve your times like using touch screen instead of moving the cursor, pressing b all the time so the activation prompt doesn't pop up every single time, etc.

Good Luck 🙂 it gets worse after Grace tbh

Yeah, I checked a lot of guides and all of them are wrong and only get you very confused, but after testing a lot I actually routed the whole game except for the last level, I wanted to document all this info I've gathered about the game but I haven't done it yet. I'll try to do it some time in the future when I have time.

If you're curious about grace, it just so happens that you just need to beat every Spirit 3 times, except for Knospe for some reason. This includes the Penguin, the birdman guy (Forgot his name), Skull Servant and Kairyu-Shin. You can completely ignore Knospe, it's so weird but yeah, that's the way to progress in Grace, meaning that you need to win 12 duels to unlock Vampire Curse.

However, I would be more interested in routing Any% TBH before adding more categories, I've routed this game in the past up to the last level but I have no previous knowledge in speedrunning Yugioh games, so there might be a lot of things I might be missing.

Yeah, I was the one who added the rules and just added placeholder rules because there were no runs for any%, it's just there because I thought it needed to be. If you want to add some rules and have questions about the game I can help 🙂

And about new categories, personally I think it would be nice, but no point in adding categories just because, but if you want to run another categori and record a run maybe we can discuss it.

Is that the emulator for android? I don't know, other communities are picky with the emulator choices for GBA games and I doubt that an android emulator would be as accurate as Bizhawk, and since there is no data on emulators for this game I'll avoid answering questions you don't know about, also this post is from a year ago wtf

Just because it's "easier" doesn't mean it's faster, but might be more beginner friendly if that's what you meant. But I'm actually interested to know if there are actual differences between regions, like text speed or something.

Also, if you want your runs removed (For whatever reason lmao) I'm pretty sure you can do it yourself 🙂 no need to be bothering mods
