We are planning to do a full Discussion of all rules for Diablo 2 speedrunning. The goal is to find a baseline of rules which most speedrunners are happy with. This however also means that some of you might not be happy with the end result.

I am assuming that it will be necessary to make polls for certain topics. Those will only be open for speedrunners.

The rule discussion will take place at the following times: 30 May 2020 at 6 PM CEST 30 May 2020 at 9 AM PDT 30 May 2020 at 12 PM EDT 31 May 2020 at 2AM AEST

In this discord I will manually give the role of speedrunner to anyone who has a completed run on this game.

I hope you will be available on that date and time - If not, we will not finalize decisions at that point - We want to give every speedrunner the opportunity to take part in potential votes.

So here are my notes:

Topic: LiveSplit Script (loading time issues)

Verdict: The script will remove any "open door" and Save & Exit loading screen / hang time. The initial TCP/IP loading screen will be included in the run time - Had to make the initial TCP/IP phase just not pausing the timer.

Topic: Timing methods:

In addition to that we will display Real Time and Ingame Time (with the definition of just removing above mentioned loading times) This means in the future every run will have to be submitted with both times being displayed. A guide on how to make this happen will follow shortly.

Topic: Maximum load time length Verdict: In order to prevent people to enlarge pauses within loading screens (for the ingame timer) - the maximum allowed loading screen is 10 seconds. Any loading screen exceeding this will end in a removed run.

Topic: Sound on gameplay Verdict: All runs have to be submitted with working sound. This means - At least 1 tick of sound must be set in game and you have to upload your videos without mute issues. (Local recording + upload to youtube should do the trick for the most part. This means -ns is banned.

Topic: target lines Verdict: Banned target lines: -act 1 to 5 | -direct |-txt | -ns | (-seed in unseeded categories) Any other target line seems to be fine and will be allowed to use. If another big time save is found through these might have to be addressed at a later point.

Topic: When does a run start / finish Verdict: Specify the rules to "The game starts at the creation of a lvl 1 Act 1 character and finishes at the Baal kill of the category" (Normal in any% normal and Hell in any% hell)

Topic: Which patch should be used? Verdict: Any of the patch version 1.14 has to be used. (All runs before 30 May 2020 will be grandfathered in)

Topic: Abusing rerolls for quest rewards Verdict: Intentional rerolls for Quest rewards are not allowd.

Topic: Scripts and Macros Verdict: Scripts and Macros during the run are not allowed! (You can use scripts for resetting the start of the run)

Topic: Classic / conversion Verdict: The classic + conversion to LoD is banned. (runs untill 30 May 2020 are grandfathered in)

Topic: Manual breaks (on timer) Verdict: Pausing the timer manually is not being allowed. You have to do your pee breaks while the timer is running - sorry :) .

On the topic of adding new categories - such as the currently emerging BNS category: We have pretty much agreed on making this a game extension - meaning it will not be on the main leaderboards. The main reason for this is that it is a mod of the game - therefor does not fit into the main game.

In addition to this we will have a seperate discussion on how to deal with future additions of categories.

For Reference on the discussion the Stream VOD: link

Also I made a Screenshot of all the seperate votings we did.
