Leaderboards and Mods

Because with the current leaderboard setup there's no reason to actually submit your run to the board unless it's being played on the HD version of the game. I've always seen SRC as a place where you can compete with other people under the same rules and hardware. But this leaderboard is not currently set up that way, it favours people using a certain version of the game and prevents anyone who does a good run on the SD version of the game from being acknowledged.

Isn’t that the whole point of speedrunning, to compete with other people on equal playing fields. The logic that is being said here makes no sense. It’s like a mini competing in formula one “don’t worry about where you finished, you didn’t stand a chance. At least you took part and here’s your participation badge” All the OG’s have separate categories for emulation, console etc

Hi uhTrance. Thanks for getting back so quickly. On the mod front I agree; to be clear, this is not a push to get myself power - which I know you didn't suggest - but I wanted to make that clear because a few people backed me on this and, while I appreciate it guys, that was certainly not what this thread was about.

Also, this thread was not meant to be an echo chamber - if anyone feels the boards are fine as-is then this is a place to say that. On that, hoobie, please don't come into my stream and bring up stuff that can be posted here. I appreciate you are clearly friends with Trance and share his views, but that is just poor etiquette in my opinion. Again, the point of this thread was a discussion for both sides of the argument - opposing opinions to my own are welcome.

To your point though, there are clearly more than four people in this community, and as I stated the numbers are irrelevant. My outlook is that communities should make decisions as a community, regardless of size and definitely regardless of 'well runner X is better than you so their opinion is more valid'. This is just a childish school yard way of looking at things in my view.

I think someone mentioned clutter? I have to say my raging OCD does yearn for a clutter-free setup but I don't feel that it is such a big deal. Games like REHD have somewhat cluttered boards and they work just fine.

Again, I am for democracy and community decisions. If that's not possible then I don't think I want to remain part of it. I think this thread is worth reading; part 3 specifically https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/qkvjz

This is starting to smell like a whole lot of gatekeeping to me.

Ireland

Ok I think I have come up with a solution you will just need to give me a little while to do some research

Ireland

So my idea is to separate HD and SD into two separate games

SD will have all versions of the game. All emulators and for consoles, all regions (Emulators will be advised to run on Japanese versions if they are all accessible)

HD Version will not be separated between Emulator and Console as the time difference is not much between Emu and HDD and next to nothing between Emu and SSD

Thoughts?

Just for clarity, does this mean all SD consoles and emulators are on the same leaderboard or separated from each other?

Ireland

All SD versions, console and emulators will be on one board, but they will be separated so if you have the fastest time on said version it will say #1 so you're not comparing against someone on a faster version of the game

England

This would be similar to what RE4 have done with separation from steam and console for reference.

While I appreciate the idea, I feel like that is way more hassle than simply separating this board into HD and SD. The separation within those groups (i.e. console and emu) is perhaps much less important for now. Also, can you even transfer all the existing runs to a completely new game?

England

Transferring runs to a different game and category is the same process tbh

Ireland

There are not many runs it will not take me long to do at all

I don't understand how creating a completely new game leaderboard for the SD version is better than having them separated by HD and SD tabs on the current board. The cluttered excuse just doesn't seem enough to justify going to that extreme.

As said by people before. They are two totally different versions of the game. Much like Console and Steam for RE4. I don't think this is over the top and it solves the problem. Everyone gets their own category for whatever version they have access too, and the HD version which has the most competition/runners has a competitive and clear leader board

Personally I think this is a fine solution https://imgur.com/vaGGg2a

It's barely a change from what we have now it would just be separated on one extra level.

So what if someone wants to run on a slower console version or they don't have access to a Japanese copy. And how would you separate emulator from physical hardware?

California, USA

Well we wanted to accommodate all of that originally but that is too much clutter apparently. This would be a compromise that solves peoples desire to separate HD and SD, while still minimising clutter. Not what was originally wanted, but certainly somewhere in the middle. I don't like the idea of separating the game entirely - just my preference, don't know what others think.

I think it's clear at this point that we're not going to get everything separated between consoles and emulators. I think what Mogul has proposed is a good middle ground as you get to keep PS3 and PS3 Emulator together and the SD runners get their own tab without everything being cluttered.

This seems like a solid plan to me, even if it means seperating the game into two, it is better than reaching no compromise at all.

Philippines

This could work. at the very least, the HD and the SD version will have its own respective competition. This wont be a problem
