Hello everyone, i decided to play TTs of ctr, and since i have no consoles left at my home i was wondering, (i have to buy one) which console was the best and generally what i need other than that ( i have money to spend). Generally i know an old tv like the sony Trinitron would work for input lag, other than that? Like cables etc, console. Also i dont know if i should buy a console with modchip ( i have pal and ntsc j original ) because a pal one wouldnt read ntsc j, but i dont know if the modchip causes trouble with actual TTs. Thanks!

NTSC-U / PAL 30K Also, no, modchips don't cause any trouble with TTs.

as victor said modchips dont cause nothing for time trials

I asked it cause there is a guy pretty decent on TTs (layoso) and his modchip gives him weird jump on ntsc-j, resulting as 0.23. no matter the iso happens only on his ps2.

Also i've read online a comment by redhotbr about 39004 being better, now i am confused, by 30k you mean exclusively 3000x, right?

Thanks in advance guys, i'd rather buy a decent console rather than damn myself after xD

a few consoles force discs to run with their region, no matter the region of the cd. That's why layoso's ntsc-j has 0.23 jumps, and zord and many south american players have PAL with 0.26 jumps (not talking about the patched pal version turned into ntsc, that's a different thing).

I don't know what causes these consoles to behave like that, but I certainly wish I knew at least which models are concerned.

If you're interested about time trial, I recommend putting your times on the website ctr4ever.joora.fr, and joining the facebook discussion group La cloaca di ctr.

Yeah good reminder that TTs have their own facebook community / website, most of the people agree with not migrating for speedrun.com, RTA community have almost nothing to do with them and their rules (at least most of the runners).

As far as I'm aware, NTSC PSX games with PAL fps or PAL PSX games with NTSC fps is a problem of PS2 modchips (at least slim models). PS1 plays fine with the fps conversion, while PS2 fails. However I'd recommend buying a NTSC-J and a PAL console for time trials, cause those are the only two versions that you need.

About console models: for speedrunning it's a lottery game. PS2 of 39K and 30K models are the ones that people are using and have faster loads/lag in general. If you only care about time trials, a PAL PSX and a NTSC-J PSX is enough, PS2s are only needed when you want to do full game runs (cause you'd need the time saver of PS2 fast disc speed to have high level competition).

TVs: usually CRT TVs are fine.
