Oh also, the reason I don't enter underworld already falling is because if you are flat on the ground and just hold right the whole time until you reach the bottom, you come out on the right every time. Your method is slightly faster if done perfectly- but it's pretty luck reliant- you have to have really good timing + hope you don't bounce around at the bottom, losing more time than you would've saved. That factory in your any% No OOB run was pretty unfourtunate- but that falling strat after the purple switch is SICK- how do you do it? It seems pretty inconsistent, my PB has a consistent method which, while not necessarily faster, again, works almost 100% of the time.

Oh, I see what you mean. I'm not sure if it would be faster, I'd say maybe a second at most, done perfectly? You have to fly down a bit extra and fly up a bit extra, and I'm not 100% sure the deaths make up for it.

Dude you're a fucking monster. But there's no way I'm going to give up on this. 2:38 HERE I COME

Also thanks for the tips ❤️

That's stupid IMO, IIRC other glitches are harder and more inconsistent than moat skip. And why do every major skip except 1?

It seems the OOB glitch is pretty much just reliant on luck. I'm not 100% sure what you mean when talking about the route change- I'll watch the vid when it's verified. As it's reliant on luck, I'd say do neutral (medium?) jumps instead of small jumps to get OOB. In fact I sometimes use big jumps, just because you're more likely not to miss the jump once you've lined yourself up with a neutral jump, as the bigger the jump, the harder it is to change your horizontal velocity a lot, like you can with lots of little jumps.

The half-forest half-lava glitch has happened to me too. I think that crow room glitch has also happened to me.

Incorporating OOB in 100% would be awesome, and I've thought of trying to route it, but the cats are spread pretty evenly around the game, so I don't think this will ever happen without a MASSIVE route change. The only thing I can really think of is getting OOB to save time in getting the cats in the upper forest section, just above the underworld and lava bit.

That too, but I assumed that was obvious?

I'd say that's most likely just lag.

Nice man, 4:14.25 is an incredible time! Any% no OOB is pretty fun, also quite a bit easier than 100%. I reckon you'd get WR pretty quick after this insane 100% time. Death abuse setups are, for the most part, really easy in any% no OOB. The route is ridiculously easy to learn, especially for you who probably knows the entire map inside out by now.

Any% is literally just hoping you get lucky and get OOB quick. Since I doubt anyone will get OOB on the first jump, I'd say most of the time save would come from not jumping to align yourself when OOB.

Thanks, that's awesome! Knowing what pace you're on during a run would certainly be helpful.

¤secretly hopes the WR will never drop below 4:20¤

I dunno. That would make it really easy to create spliced runs. Does it save your exact position or just the room? If the former, just make it save the room. And the cat saving thing would only really be handy for casual 100% playthroughs

Edit: Nevermind. It's perfect! Spliced runs can't be made due to the timer not being saved. So this is perfect!

Nice! I reckon you'll end up beating your 4:18. You can already get 4:18 or 4:19 without that failed death abuse in WR run, and you can shave off some more seconds by not bumping into walls. Getting under 4:10 will require a massive amount of optimization in collecting individual cats, so I reckon the WR won't get below 4:13 or 4:14 anytime soon.

Also I just got a 5:16.75 off camera. I think I'll start recording runs soon, I can easily grind that down to 4:40 without too many major mistakes.

I've tried to incorporate a reset button. I've worked out how to reset the timer to 0 and stop all momentum, but the code which handles moving between worlds is pretty confusing and I haven't been able to get it to take the player to a specific room (room_00 in this case).

edit: Wow, just realized I forgot to put the project file in the "source" folder. Oops.

Yeah, I saw it. A really, really good run, at this point, would probably be ~4:15. Sub 4:20 (heh) is free if you play consistently throughout the whole run.

So as you may've seen in the "Overworld OOB" thread, I've started to dig into the source code of the game to create a custom build. anshwo has helped a LOT (done most of the work :3 ), including basically writing all the code for the onscreen timer and getting the screen crisper.

This will include:
Onscreen timer with milliseconds [Done]

Practice mode (Or seperate practice build) to warp to specific areas [In progress]

Reset button (R) [done]

Crisper display (watch RBDJellyfish's 100% run) [Done]

If anyone wants to suggest ideas to add that would be beneficial to runners, that would be great.

Edit: Uploading v1, without practice mode. I'll need to properly look into teleportation tomorrow.

liopoilliopoil likes this.

Edit: Nope. Still getting errors. I'll PM you on discord. No point spamming the forums with this shit.

Damn. Even after I fix a few annoying issues that come up when I try to run the game I get some errors about "obsolete functions" like this:
if !variable_local_exists("dir") dir=1

The only way, seemingly, to fix this, is to just leave it as dir=1.
This doesn't come up with an error immediately- it renders the first frame before throwing another one, something about referencing a function before initializing it. Ugh.

Did the author use GML or drag and drop? I've got very little experience with GML. I don't think it would be too hard to slightly modify for my needs though.
