Any% Route (Dec 2020)
Updated 3 years ago by PeteThePlayer

A lot of new strats and glitches have been found in Mind Over Mutant this year so the route has also been streamlined. This guide is here to show the updates compared to the old route from January 2016.

Select to play on the hardest difficulty, Bonkers! It increases the speed of all gameplay segments by ~20%. You take more damage from enemy attacks, but the damage you deal yourself remains the same across all settings. Videos will be linked below to explain visualize the tech.

The route works as follows:

Wumpa Island (I):

  1. Skip talking to Coco. Move towards the area of the combat tutorials and use a Boost Jump to skip over the wall. Next, use the Zombie State (performed like a Boost Jump, minus the actual jump at the end) to bypass the tutorial cutscenes in this room.
  2. Set up the Deathcam Glitch on the first Ratcicle in the game. If done correctly, it allows you to move freely during the majority of loading screens, transitions and cutscenes. Jack the Ratcicle afterwards and proceed in the cave.
  3. Once in the cave, a cutscene starts immediately. Store your titans during the loading screen or the cutscene to be able to fly with the titan and follow through the cave segment.
  4. Dismiss the cutscenes on your way to fight N. Gin's goons and trigger the first FMV. This triggers the Coco boss fight.
  5. Don't fight the minions, just use the flight property to maneuver around several invisible walls to bypass everything and go straight to the Coco fight. Remember to set up the second player's crosshair in the center of the screen to defeat Coco quickly.
  6. Deflect two balls in a row to knock Coco off her machine. Freeze her before the cutscene begins for a quick cheap shot, skip the cutscene, then take her out in one cycle with Ratcicle's light attacks and Player 2's chickens.

Ratcicle Kingdom/Evil Public School: 7. Proceed up until just before you reach the Ratcicle Kingdom proper. Use the Zombie State to bypass the first cutscene there and then Boost Jump to skip past the gate to enter Evil Public School. ALTERNATIVELY: Shortly before the Ratcicle Kingdom, there is a puzzle involving you to jump on two buttons to build a bridge. Use the cutscene you get for the first button to store a flight, then fly around the cutscene trigger in the kingdom and use the height from one of the roller machines next to the school gate to enter the next area. 8. Go through the next area normally while taking a Rhinoroller with you, open up the school door with the spinning mechanism and quickly use a store-jump to jump on the invisible collision on top of the fence to reach the door. You can perform the store-jump from the spinning platform or from around the right of the steel box next to the fence as reference point. 9. Use Rhinoroller Jumps to clip through each subsequent floor with P2. Beware that the spike pillars kill your titans in one hit. Jack the last TK briefly to flip the switch and enter the spinning room. ALTERNATIVELY: Jack the two TKs from below to climb up the school building. Your movement needs to be very particular for the first TK. 10. In the spinning room, use a Rhinoroller jump to clip P2 blindly into Nina's classroom. Die as P1 on the death trigger just outside the room. ALTERNATIVELY: Spin the top mechanism, place P2 in the window, start spinning the second one while P2 goes through the window and quickly turn into mask form as P1. 11. Protect Nina's school project with the heavy spin attacks. Store a flight on the ensuing cutscene. Exit the school and use the flight to speed up the backtrack segment. Once in Ratcicle Kingdom, use the entrance cutscene you bypassed earlier to get yet another flight to backtrack all the way to Wumpa Island.

Wumpa Island (II): 12. Get a flight on the first cutscene. Use it to skip into the tutorial room. Use the walls in the next room to gain height and bypass all the tutorial cutscenes again. 13. Fly directly to the fight against the Spike Hero to get the key to the Junkyard. You may utilize the two glove powerups (one right after the first cutscene in that room, the other on top of the battle arena) to speed up the battle. Collect the key and the wumpa fruit if need be. Once teleported to the desert, continue normally to the Junkyard.

Junkyard: 14. Get a flight on the first cutscene. Do NOT pull out your titan around the Doom Monkeys because a specific attack of them can remove the flight property. Start flying just before the first sludge pool. Use the flight in the next room to skip everything and use the gears in the background as reference points to skip having to use a Sludge to continue. If you accidentally drop in bounds, use the free-jack powerup to use the Sludge the intended way instead. 15. Use the cutscene in the next room, if you have to, to get a flight, gain a tiny bit of height on the save point and skip past the gate to bypass the Crunch boss fight. The death ceiling here is pretty low so be careful. In the next room, fly directly to Mt. Grimly.

Mt. Grimly (I): 16. Get a flight on the first cutscene here. Use either the spikes behind you or the upward slope on the right to gain height and skip the fight. After the Grimly cutscene, fly up and "backtrack" through the end of the area to get to Uka Uka. Clip P2 through the ceiling (next to Uka Uka). 17. Battle the Yuktopus in Zombie State, drop in as non-zombie'd player and jack him. Use the special attack to destroy two generators at once, if possible. 18. Proceed with your flying Rhinoroller to get to the teleporters. Go out of bounds to speed it up. ALTERNATIVELY: Grab a Battler as your secondary titan in this room. It is quite a detour but it makes an upcoming skip significantly easier. 19. Bypass the Stench battle with the flying roller and reach the teleporters.

Uka Uka Bones: 20. Wasteland Bone: Go here first if you have a Battler. Proceed up until the gate. It can no longer be opened. Use your Battler's light mid-air attack to allow P2 to clip through the gate and then leave the Battler behind. If you don't have a Battler, use a Rhinoroller Jump like the one in the Evil Public School to achieve a similar result. Proceed and battle the Snipe Hero in Zombie State. Make sure to not fall into a death trigger during the fade after collecting this or any other bone. 21. Frozen Coast Bone: Here are two gates that also cannot be opened, but approaching them will crash your game. Instead backtrack a bit to find a cutscene to store a flight. Use it to bypass the two gates but be careful not to get too close to the second gate as you attempt to reach the next area. Use several other flights to skip annoying climbing and platforming segments and utilize P2's chicken combat in conjunction with a glove powerup to defeat the Magmadon Hero safely from afar. 22. Wumpa Island Bone: Proceed and get a flight from the cutscene before the bone area. Fly through the entire section to bypass several setpieces. Alternatively you can use the Zombie State to just run through the boulder. Utilize the glove+chicken combo again to take out the Grimly Hero and the other titans.

Mt. Grimly (II): 23. Trigger the Stench fight that you bypassed earlier. Get a flight and use a tricky reference point to skip it and return to Uka Uka like before. ALTERNATIVELY: Do the fight normally and use the second of the two post-fight scenes to get a flight and return. ALTERNATIVELY: Use the Zombie State to bypass the fight altogether and Boost Jump up to the path to go back to Uka. This way you will not have a flight though, so you will be required to use a death abuse to skip past the gate (kill P1 with P2, drop out of the game as P2 while P1 is in the death animation). 24. Teleport to Wumpa Island (you can teleport before skipping the cutscene to save a few seconds but make sure to dismiss the cutscene before the game fades into the loading screen). Use the first cutscene in your destination to fly into the Doominator. Alternatively you can use a series of Boost Jumps to get in there.

Space Head: 25. Jump up to the teleporter and use it while on the Rhinoroller. Get a flight on the first cutscene in Space Head and then press the button to enter the complex. 26. Fly up the left wall and pull out P2 to clip through the ceiling and get into the second puzzle room, thereby bypassing the first puzzle room entirely. The clip tends to only work if the Rhinoroller faces away from the camera, otherwise P2 gets flung into the wrong direction. Beware of the Stenches that are running around here. 27. Fly straight out of the room. That counts as finishing the room, which spawns the teleporter to the Cortex fight. You may purposely die to the Stenches and TNTs here to despawn them, which makes performing the same skip again to get to the teleporter much easier. 28. Do the Cortex fight, use P2 chickens to help in phase 1 for a quick one-cycle, use Zombie State to help in phase 2 and don't forget to have P2 active at the end to dismiss cutscenes on that controller to avoid jumping as Cortex while skipping cutscenes. Finish the run by jumping on the big button.

Rule Update, OPL & more

The rules have been revamped a few days ago, most notably making use of the Main Rules.

Emulator rules have been specified further, requiring you to disable the "Speed up Disc Transfer Rate" as it pushes loading significantly beyond the capabilities of any legitimate version of the game.
