Movement Tricks v1.1.0
Updated 4 years ago by AJ213

First I would like to say that all of the names for this tricks are completely made up. If we want to standardize names I will edit this guide to accommodate that standardization. If anything is incorrect or needs more explanation do say something and I will try to improve it.

In this guide, each movement trick should have a link to a video of someone performing the trick. If there is no video that likely means no one has done the trick in a run. One day this guide will link to a single video demonstrating all of the movement tricks.

[Section=Basic Movement] [big]Diagonal Move[/big] It is faster to move diagonally than it is to move straight forward. Therefore, most of the time it is better to hold the WA/WD keys (while tilting the camera at an angle to remain moving forward) at all times to move diagonally.

[big]Low Jumping[/big] To perform this movement, you want to abuse the fact that when you go off a truck you have a short period of time to still jump despite not being on the truck. If you do this, and jump as low as possible off the truck, building up speed should be easier because you spend less time in the air and more time pushing off trucks.

[big]You Can Jump On The Side of Trucks[/big] It is possible to jump on the side of trucks. However, normally tapping jump is not used on the side of trucks. To really get the effect of jumping on the side of trucks, you must hold space on the side of a truck. This should result in you lifting upwards like a magical goddess. You can also use this to move fast (since you can pair it with moving forward too), but it is not recommended to do so because of how inconsistent it is to always land on the sides of trucks.

[big]Portable Truck Hop[/big] Not to be mistaken by the famous Portable Truck Boost (PTB), this trick is to use the portable truck against the ground to not fall on the ground and die (like normal), but you do this right as you are about to hit the ground. Besides having the correct angle of throwing the truck, which is slightly forward straight down on the ground, you have to be holding jump. Otherwise you won't stick to the portable truck and you will just fall to the ground and die. This trick normally is used near the end of levels to prevent you from dying.

[big]Portable Truck Boost[/big] The golden child of speedrunning Any%. The goal of this trick is to launch yourself across the map vertically and horizontally. Depending on the surface, a PTB can be difficult to pull off. Angled or rough surfaces are more difficult to pull the skip off and moving fast while doing the skip is incredibly hard. To perform the trick, you have to have a wall nearby that is angled opposite where you want to go. Once you find this wall, you jump in the air, levitate to maintain position, and throw a portable truck against the wall. This should cause the truck to clip through the wall for a short moment and fly right out. If you are positioned correctly, the truck should hit you and send you also flying through the air with it. This truck is best practiced on 8:5 or really most steampunk levels.

[Section=Advanced Movement] [big]Pause Portable Truck Boost[/big] This skip is exactly like a PTB, the only difference is you pause and unpause right as the truck spawns in from the capsule. If you get hit by this truck, this should result in you flying extremely fast through the air. This sound amazing, but the problem is that it is very inconsistent or difficult to do. Sometimes you will be launched so far into the air that you will not touch the ground for up to minutes. Other times you will be launched just perfectly up into the air that you can just levitate to the goal. It is unknown why the speed varies so much, but there are theories that it has to do with when you pause the game.

[big]PPTB, But On Other Trucks[/big] Probably the hardest trick in the game, but you are able to do Pause Portable Truck Boosts on other trucks. To set this up, you have to do a PPTB on the very bottom middle side of a truck. Not only that, you have to be positioned in a way that puts you directly above the trucks path. If this is done correctly, the portable truck should launch up into the air with you with it. This trick is normally used on 9:10.

[big]Truck Height Boost[/big] This is exactly like holding jump on the side of trucks to gain height. The difference however is you must be lower on the truck, you have to aim the camera at about the front wheels of the truck you are on, and you have to moving forward. If you do this, you should gain a ton of height from the side of the truck. This technically could be done on the back of the truck, but this is more difficult. A runner that does this normally is snakeathon so check out his runs to see multiple examples of the trick being done. In fact, for all tricks in this guide, you have to practice them in runs and watch other people do them to fully understand how they work.

[big]Levitation Boost[/big] This may seem obvious to some, but this trick is something some runners don't end up using for a long time. It is pretty simple actually, all you have to do is levitate right before you land on a truck. Keep in mind that you normally have to be pretty parallel to the truck you are landing on to pull this off. If you are too high you will either end up missing the truck you are trying to land on or lose control. Just make sure you are hitting the truck from a more horizontal angle. Although it is simple in execution and in concept, to preform it consistently multiple times in a row can prove to be challenging. You can probably get away without doing this trick for a long time. However, once you reach around sub 20 minutes you will have to be constantly preforming this trick to remain competitive. [Section=Gimmick Movement] [big]Side of Wall Portable Truck Hop[/big] When you throw portable trucks against a wall there is a short moment that they are in the air/on the wall. You can use this in some levels to maintain your height when levitation isn't enough to keep you in the air. However, there has to be a wall parallel to the direction you are moving to do this. This is really rarely used on 3:10, so I don't have a clip for this trick. You don't need to know it really. [big]Side of Surface Portable Truck Boost[/big] This trick is pretty much solely used on 2:2 due to how difficult it can be to pull off consistently anywhere else. To pull it off you basically have to take a surface like a fence and be perpendicular(ish) to the surface. You throw the truck against the fence causing it to vibrate violently. If done correctly the truck should launch you parallel to the surface you threw the truck on. If you want to pull this off I would recommend watching the camera angle other people use for reference.
