Thread: 16 Bags of Cash

Started by: cleartoniccleartonic

In no world is it acceptable to rename this holy category to the unimpressive & measly name "All Cash Bags". "16 Bags of Cash" is a historically important category of this wonderful game, to be told in legends to next generation speedrunners, and its name is perhaps one of the most important aspects of the tale. I implore the mods to take this matter seriously.

Emulator is fine, but generally stay away from doing runs on VBA. Gambatte and BGB are fine choices, can use Bizhawk too (which uses Gambatte as a core). Your runs will be marked as emu and the emulator will be checked.

And no, timing pauses aren't allowed. Real time is supposed to capture the entire playthrough. If you have a timing pause (advise that you don't, but) the time would be retimed from start to finish

I sent "support@speedrun.com" a message about this topic awhile ago, no response. Is that email actively checked by anyone or should I repost here?

Thread: Speedrun Community Survey

Started by: cleartoniccleartonic

Hi everyone. With the help of a few others, I've put together a community speedrun survey to briefly poll about certain topics. You can finish the survey quickly by answering multiple choice & scale questions, or you can write-in longer answers. The survey will be open for ~2-3 weeks, and the results will be analyzed via a report.

Please take a look and fill out if you're interested, and help spread the word. We'd like to have as much exposure as possible. Thanks!

Forum: Mega Man

Thread: speedrun.com vs megamanleaderboards.net

Started by: PolariPolari

The Mega Man Leaderboards website is a wholesome and robust leaderboard system that caters to the Mega Man community's needs. SRC provides the novelty of being part of the greater speedrun community network, but functionally MMLB works perfectly fine, and ideally would be mirrored on SRC for the greater community to view.

I'd like to iterate in this thread that the reasoning a lot of us are uncomfortable with the current state is really the haphazard set of (seemingly random) games that show up on SRC under the Mega Man series. They are prone to being outdated and generally looks like an overall poorly maintained effort, when in reality we have a fantastic resource at MMLB that's accurate and up to date due to the work of many community members. It sends the wrong message to people on SRC, and is misleading to people who may be visiting or want accurate information.

I believe asking moderators to maintain two sets of leaderboards is unrealistic, and I also think that MMLB is a community staple and should not be compromised. I agree with the idea that we set up pages similar to DKC to link externally for each game while a longer term mirroring solution is identified. Personally I don't understand whatsoever why this would be a problem to implement, both in form and in principle, and would like to hear arguments against it if the SRC admins feel this way. I also hope the SRC admins and staff are open to Joka's suggestion and other similar ones as the overall community and its niche & specific needs grow- especially if a community member is willing to champion an effort to sync the databases or whatever else, I would hope the SRC admins respect the ideas

Generally, the approach to new categories is you will need to submit a video of a run (we won't make categories without at least one run yet) and a description/ruleset for the category (which you've done above).

I personally am indifferent about these categories - if you'd feel like they'd amount to people learning and playing DQIX, then I don't have a problem with adding them. They will go under a misc. category.

Thread: Adding times in bulk

Started by: cleartoniccleartonic

I'm trying to add >100 times to a category, but the only interface on the site is to manually input each entry one at a time. Is there either a way to implement a bulk addition, or is there someone I could provide delimited text to handle updated a page in mass?

Thanks
