So I've been doing BotW research for a speed run podcast, and I have a few questions for the community.

Before I start, if there is a better place to ask these questions, please let me know :)

  • I've heard plenty of runners say that the Stasis Shrine shield jump gap is much harder than it looks. What makes it more difficult than a normal gap (like say the Magnesis Shrine gap)?

  • What’s the difference between “100% Extended” and “100% Original”?

  • Are there any monumental/impactful runs that have gone under the radar that I should watch?

  • Is there a TAS scene for BotW?

  • I'm curious to hear about how crazy pathing 100% got in the months after BTB and Shield Clips were found.

I also have some questions specifically about Stasis Bounce developments in the last few months, but I've already asked a lot as it is.

Thanks everyone!

for the first question, i personally think its harder because you need an angle so you can actually make the jump. for example, i have had runs that i have jumped too far right and miss completely or to far left which doesn't give me the length i need to make the jump so for me, its the angle of the jump since the boulder is there

The difference between normal and extended is that extended has dlc to do aswell; Currently TASing is not possible, but there is a Best theoretical time beeing developed

Scotland

TASing is possible on console but has certain limitations - motion controls are not yet possible and we can’t deal with inconsistent loads and rng yet either. Some TASing has also been done on emulator but most of the same issues apply. TASing is in an early state as all inputs have to be manually programmed in which is a tedious and time consuming process.

Relating back to what Puper said, a Best Theoretical Time (BTT) has been created for Any%. It’s currently sitting at 22:37. A BTT is a spliced run and is the closest thing to a “perfect time” we have so far. Some people dub this a “human TAS”.

Check out Swiffy’s YT videos on btt. He has been working very hard for years to come up with some crazy videos and strats based on lots of different sources. I highly recommend.

For the first one, the angle has to be perfect, and I personally just suck at that in the first place, witch is why I'm trying to find another way(That doesn't take forever). Also your timing has to be exact otherwise you will over shoot

also just to add on to what pika said, there is a device called the titanone which can be used to script inputs and create tas's on switch and other supported consoles. it currently does support the gyroscope for the switch so it allows motion controls to be tased as well
