Load Times?

Im noticing that sometimes the game will run faster (like loading into boss fights with no stuttering) while other times i will lose a bit of time from slow loads into boss fights and loading slowly into levels. Not sure if this is just me imagining it but i went back and watched two extremely similar runs except the "faster" one gained around two seconds over the "slower" one in the first 3 levels despite the game play being practically the same.

Has anyone had a problem similar to this or am I just going crazy lol

I've noticed it sometimes myself, but mostly from grinding Time Attack mode. I'm not sure if it actually affects times or not. If I remember correctly I've had it in any% runs where it seemingly didn't affect my time. I know some games just skip frames instead when it starts lagging to cancel out any time gain/loss, but idk how they've dealt with it in this game. I do think some of my Time Attack PRs have had some lag in them, so: Maybe it skips frames when it starts lagging cancelling out the time loss? Maybe it just doesn't affect the in-game timer for Time Attack? The time loss you're seeing in runs could also be due to it being harder to control and getting precise timings for jumps etc., and not the game having actually "slowed" down.

If you do have some footage of you running in a straight line with lag we could compare it frame by frame to someone running that same distance without lag, and see if one of them gains anything.

I have not noticed it in time attack and I think the in game timer accounts for the slow down if there is any. It might have been just my playing that seemed slower however it does seem pretty consistent in the amount of time lost when the game feels like its running "slow". I will try and get two separate videos of straight running and compare them to see if it is the game or if it is just me imagining things and playing slower then normal. Thanks for the reply!

Have you tried using external software or your graphics card settings to force V-Sync? I know that it's not an option in game, and I believe it just skips visual frames as Gappo said. I think V-Sync might show all frames, but actually lose you time if the game MUST lag, so it could be a bad solution depending on your PC. Also run the game in high priority.

I have not but I will go and try and mess around with the settings, i think forcing V-Sync might fix it if there is a problem. Thanks for the suggestion

I have looked over some videos and it appears that well game play is not slower, load times are sometimes slower. I looked at how long it took the game to load the first level starting timing when I selected story mode. When the game will load fast I can gain control of Bloo Kid starting at 8.0X seconds. When the game loads slow I will gain control of Bloo Kid around 8.3X seconds. I repeated this intro test multiple times and it seems to be up to the game and not my error however there is a chance I am wrong.

Looking at the fps for the game when loading in it will drop to 30 fps or below when it is slow and stay around 56-60 fps when it is fast. The time loss is not too much but loading each new level also loses some time which adds up over a run.

This is just what I have found out and I am not sure what to make of it.

Now that you mention it, the start menu can actually be quite slow sometimes for seemingly no reason. I swear sometimes I've gained control of BK nearly half a second slower, and considering how I'm button mashing the Enter-key that should mean slow inputs aren't to blame. So could be most of the time loss is in the menus when it lags (which adds up to quite a lot for all the small bits of menuing and scene transitions between stages and worlds)? I'm assuming most devs don't bother coding in frame-skips when the menu lags as they do with in-game lag, so that could be why we see time loss due to lag in normal runs while we don't really see them in Time Attack

I would assume you are right with time loss being in the menus and scene transitions and that definitely would make sense as to why time attack is consistent. Menu load times do add up over a run but I am not sure how to account for the slow down other then to try runs when menus are loading faster.

Not too sure why they will load slower sometimes as I have checked task manager out during both situations and my pc was running practically the same every time.

Do you run your game from an external HDD, internal HDD, or SSD? Personally I use an external HDD for all my steam games which isn't a good idea, so if it's related to that I probably have the bad loads sometimes as well.

I run all my games on an SSD (Samsung 860 QVO 1TB). I have checked to see if maybe the SSD was slowing down and causing the problem but crystal disk mark shows that it is running as expected. Not sure if the storage device is related but I can possibly try and throw in a hard drive and compare load times.

Only playing on 3DS and Never had issues there. But After playing a Level Over and Over again in Time Attack for about ~40 Minutes the Game would lag hard in the menues and eventually crash for some reason

interesting, I have also had random game crashes but they don't happen too often
