For the first phase(green) you need to just go forward and go back so you dont get hit by his pencil spinning attack, then you go back and you should be about a block away from him and then do a jump, and yes even if he does throw an item you can dodge it by doing a well timed full jump.

For the second phase(yellow) you do the exact same thing as we did in the last phase.

For the last phase(red) when he does the pencil spinning attack you wanna travel about one fourth of the circumference to the right then sprint until your in front of him and jump backwards so you are about a block away, and that should be it.
