Operation Flashpoint vs Arma: Cold War Assault

Hey guys,

I would like to ask you whether the tricks I use in my Resistance campaign speedrun using the original Operation Flashpoint game work the same in the ARMA: Cold War Assault. These 'tricks' consist mainly of:

  • Using same/load mechanics to regain control of the player in a cutscene.
  • Ignoring some of the mission's seemingly main objectives and still being allowed to continue to the next mission.

Thanks!

I guess considering last two speedruns my first question has been answered. Thanks for no replies there. Let's hope I'll see the results of the other question in action.

Hello 23Banzaj,

maybe you can clear up for me to second part that I asked which is: "Does the Arma: Cold War Crisis version of the game allow for Resistance campaign the objectives skipping that I demonstrated in my Resistance Any% Segmented run (https://www.speedrun.com/ofp_resistance/run/zq6o061y)?"

Best regards,

Arma: Cold War Assault (Version 1.99) Was Released As 10th Anniversary Celebration For Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. OF:CWC Final Patch Was 1.96. For Multiplayer You Can Download The Compatibility Patch 1.99/1.96. You Can Also Upgrade The OF:CWC To 1.99, But You Can Also Downgrade A:CWA To 1.96. I Do Not Have The OF:CWC Version To Check Anything Beyond What I Can Find On The Internet (I Will Link Sources For You To Read About The Versions Differences). Answering Your Question: I Think That You Can Skip The Same Objectives In Those Versions.

Sources: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma:_Cold_War_Assault (1.99 Free Update) https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/115817-arma-cold-war-assault (Original 10th Anniversary Post) https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/115821-cwa-199-bug-reports (1.99 Problems Post) https://steamcommunity.com/app/65790/discussions/0/828935672572382938/ (Hot Patch 1.99 To 1.96) https://steamcommunity.com/app/65790/discussions/0/523898291510324201/ (Advantages Of 1.96 Over 1.99?) https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/131676-ofp-and-cold-war-assault-mission-differences/ (Mission Differences - I Checked It And I Do Not See Any Differences)

Ending Thoughts: I Know That I Did Not Stated In The Rules But I Think We Should Separated Those Versions (I Mean Steam Version (1.99), 1.96 (Last OF Patch), And The Un-Official Patch). I Need To Get My Hands On The Original Release And Check If It Is True What People Are Saying On The Steam Forums If It Comes To Game Triggers And Scripts.

For Now As Always I Am Open To Any Help, Advice From Anyone Who Has Better Knowledge And Would Like To Share With Us. I Hope That My Attempt Of Explanation Clarifies Some Part Of Your Question. Please Come And Join Our Community Discord Server Which I Hopes Will Get Better In Coming Weeks :3

My point in asking this is whether we are playing the same game or not apart from minor technical differences that are unimportant for speedrunning. I have been looking for the changes that would affect my approach to the Resistance campaign but I have yet to see any.

It is very imporant for the speedruning the entire campaign because you can skip some very large chunks of the game simply because the game allows it and doesn't have the proper ending triggers for the outcome of you failing the objectives, namely:

  • Hostages mission can be skipped entirely in my version OFP 1.96
  • Reckoning mission can be also skipped and the campaign lets you through
  • The Pass mission can be skipped too.

You can check these in your Arma last patch game whether this works or not.

As long as they are similar enough I don't think I should need to upgrade the game.

Yes, You Can "Skip" Missions. I Was Thinking About Different Thing That's Why I Was Referencing "Objective Skip" In My Previous Post (And I Was Not 100% Sure. I Do Not Lay On Unverified Resources And On My Own Memory xD). I Completed The Missions You Mentioned In Your Post And Used The Same Methods From Your Video: https://www.speedrun.com/ofp_resistance/run/zq6o061y

My Game Version Was The Latest Steam Release Of A:CWA (1.99):

  • "Hostages" By Failing The Main Objective, The Game Continue Without Problem To The Next Mission.
  • "Reckoning" When You Arrive At That Point, The Game Continue Without A Problem.
  • "The Pass" Skip Works The Same As Above.

And If It Comes To "Need Of Upgrading" The Game I Wanted To Say That I Do Not Know. That's Why I Uphold What I Wrote In My Previous Post. So For Now Everything Will Stay As It Is Until We Checked If Everything Is The Same. "Better Safe, Than Sorry" :3
