Minnesota, USA1st time ever pulled off in a run. Pretty lucky with the timing of the mashing/jump. Saved about 2 seconds over normal time (tough to say exactly cuz of the slight pause from the jump input canceled). If this can be replicated, thats about approximately 12 seconds saved throughout the entire run - if possible to get on every predator fight.
Also dude that was a 16:56 or 57 without the death. Probably either WR or within 1-2 seconds without the death. So close man.
It takes 15 or 16 hits (I don’t remember) in each phase. Looks like you got either 15 or 16 there. It’s really dumb that the sound fx for the laser is exactly the same as the hit box so you never really know for sure.
In practice, got a 9 cycle fight for the 1st time ever. Luckily had OBS going.
3 cycles before the mask comes off and 6 after.
This saves 16 seconds compared to my PB and 5 off my GLOD.
shows time of 24.18 which saves 1 second on my PB and matches my GLOD for this stage
this is about 1 second faster than my new PB stage 19 which was about 0.4sh slower than 16:41 time so maybe nets abut 1/2 second?
One last thing, if you just a little early (last jump with punch) you can kill the troll but fall just short of the rock and then get caught and lose a bunch of time. That's another reason I like to use the lines as a reference.
I should mention this is for the most common (crappy pattern) of the 3 patterns this guy does.
The other 2 patterns (where he turns around at the edge and where he just falls off) are much easier to deal with, so they dont require any additional strats.

But essentially, you can time the 2 jumps with the vertical black lines in the background and then the last jump is between the 1st 2 lines of the the section with the tree and rocks to jump up. If you can time the punch right, you can knock off that troll without losing any time.
I got a sub 31 split for the 1st level, which was pretty rare, but now it seems is doable if you can get the timing consistent, which is why I like using the lines as reference, but not necessary just personal preference.
Essentially you want to take the hit from the seahorse as late as possible, so you can use the i-frames to get past the 1st plant to then take the hit at the end of the plant as opposed to its projectiles.
Doing that will let you use the i-frames from the 2nd bop to get past the 2nd plant's hits that will allow you to set up the clip.
heres an attempt with the intentional hit on the 1st plant
i try and get hit by the 1st plant to get i-frames past the 2nd plant (prior to clip) - although i dont think this is necessary.
If you jump to soon you dont clear the platform and if you jump to late the clip will kick you out to the right it seems.
I try and use the line of the blue brick before the plant as a guide, but its tough to get right. There is also a back up, not getting it first try, but i dont think it saves any time.
i think there is a better set up by jumping off the ledge to set up the plant clip.
