Starting a run where it should cant be compared to using a 3rd party mod. The mod youre talking about, makes the run less reset heavy. This doesnt change anything other than cutting away 8 minutes between your resets.
All times will be adjusted. It wont make it easier in any way. I'm not gonna bother arguing to every single point of yours. I'm really surprised how much you care for what a buch of guys does in their hobby. Stop trying to make this more than it is with your morals and whatnot.
We have had a vote between the runners, it turned out 7-0 after several weeks. The people that care have had good time to vote. We have already decided that it's gonna get implemented. A while ago, we had a vote if we should allow changing fps for coverslides, I voted against it, but the vote turned out to favor allowing it. I could go on and argue about it, but it's not gonna change the fact that it got allowed. This time, my vote was on the bigger side, and now this is gonna get implemented as well. Fair and square. I'm not telling you to fuck off or anything, but I'm just letting you know that it doesn't matter if it's immoral or "part of the game". I don't think there is a "Speedrunner Association" that outlaws this. We voted like this as a community, and in the end we're just making our speedrunning experience a little bit better, at the cost of someone else not running the game disliking it.
I agree with both Ewil and Havrd, I know it may seem a bit ridiculous from an outsiders view, but coming from someone who has ran this game a lot, the only thing the intro does is make your life miserable and is a huge hindrance for the competetiveness. I strongly believe that people will like the run a lot more if we remove the intro. Most runners get tired of this game, and I don't blame them. It's a pain to go through the same 8 minutes of stuff a 3 year old could do after 5 minutes of practice, only to get to the part after the intro which is known to be one of the biggest run killers. I'm gonna mention again that this isn't some serious fucking olympic sport with rules and standards, it's just a few guys playing a game fast, it's a hobby, and if we get the choice to make it much more enjoyable, at the only drawback of losing the worst part of the run, I'm sure most people who have ran this game agrees that it should be skipped.
We have two options, cut away the start or start at a set time. I suggest we have a vote for that aswell and get done with this.
I think the fact that "this is a hobby" is kind of important. I didn't really think about that initially when thinking about this new rule, but it isn't some really important thing, it's just a speedgame, it's for fun, there's no point in making runners suffer just to keep the authenticity of the run.
If we decide to completely cut away the start of the runs, seems like the most viable option, all submitted PB's would be retimed. From what I can tell, we have two options:
- To start at freezer but add time at the start. This makes doing the entire intro doable, and possibly faster if we decide for a time penalty.
- To cut away the intro completely, and start all runs after freezer at 0 seconds. This means retiming runs, and makes doing the intro stupid. My opinion is to do the second option, as the first one would be just confusing, and even with a time penalty for start after freezer, im sure nobody would start at the house ever again.
I'm sure if we would start the timer at 0 after freezer, we would go through all the runs from the leaderboards and adjust them aswell so there would be virtually no difference.
I kinda agree on starting at 0 after the freezer and just cutting away the intro for good. In my mind it makes much more sense to start the run "where the run actually begins" makes a lot more sense, to me atleast. From my brief moment of running Skyrim Marriage, it's much for enjoyable (despite the runs being crap) to being able to reset after 20 seconds. Despite this I wouldn't mind if anyone wants to keep the intro, but I doubt anyone will miss it.
Try verifying game cache (resets game to current patch) and try to patch it again. If you have any mods installed, they should be uninstalled. Also resetting or deleting configs could be worth trying.
If you don't hit it you can go back through the door again (of course not if you hit it too early).
Those specs should not be a problem then. I'm fairly certain that it's a problem with the game. Delete the game and reinstall would be my like "final answer". If that doesn't work, it should be a problem with your computer. Reinstall drivers, check stuff like that. Trying to disable the dxtory fps cap and enabling nvidia vsync could be worth trying. Try to change resolution, fullscreen and windowed fullscreen etc. and bottoming out all video settings could also work. I don't really have an answer for this, as it can be so many things. It's normal for the game to crash, but it shouldn't be often. When just doing the normal Any% route, it should crash much less than every run. Personally, with my current configuration, I haven't crashed in like 30 run attempts. It seems you just have to find a good configuration of video settings etc.
Just out of curiosity, what are your PC specs? This game has proven to be unstable, especially to lower end PC's. And this is a dumb question, but you have checked that your fps is capped at 60?
Reduce video settings, and reduce draw distance. I had the same problem, and lowering the video settings helps. I have them lowered so i can get 60fps pretty much everywhere, it måkes it much easier speedrunning.
