Speedrun.com should show milliseconds for this game. Now two people have a time of 59:59 and it claimed that the second one was another new world record, even though it was a few milliseconds slower. And some other categories probably also have very close times.
Mods can add milliseconds it's very easy to do, there's no need to re-time top 10 time but I think it would be at least necessary to re-time sub hour runs, since we are reaching perfection. Not much more time to save.
One of the major problems are is that currently, verifiers cannot retime runs-they can only verify and reject them. They'd have to go to a mod every time the milliseconds are wrong, or if they just decide to do this for WR runs, every time someone decides to use milliseconds. As you can imagine, it's very tedious and people are trying to find a way around this before putting it into place.
It's not the exact same time. And the smallest possible difference between two non-equal times is a 60th of a second
It's not about achieving something good. If someone figures out a way to credits warp and beats the game in 10 minutes, then a 50 minute run without that would still be amazing, but not the world record. Currently the site claims that both are exactly tied, which is simply false.
Ticking the ms box allows everyone to submit with ms, which we have implemented for nearly 2 weeks previously for ties in the top 10. These ties were being constantly untied while the influx of ms submitted runs would increase daily, getting slightly tedious at the time. I do not see an issue with having retimes at the top of the description of tied runs, it seems pretty visible to me, you hover over the run and its there. Better than having no ms at all imo.
Edit: Reevaluating decision with mod team and getting 2nd takes from everyone.
Depends on what the community wants the game to be. There are many games that settle for ties while many games that include ms. To me it seems arbitrary and there's not a solid argument for either case. Ultimately should be up to the top runners/mods imo.
You'd probably not use milliseconds for top 10 ties, but for all runs below a certain cutoff like 1:00:20 or 1:00:00. That would lower the number of unnecessary changes over time
