Automatic dialogue skip

As I mentioned at the beginning of my new WR video, I've accidentally found a skip that forces the game to end all dialogues automatically almost about a second after they appear (in the fast forward mode). As you can see, textboxes in the top right corner disappear without clicking the checkmark button. To set up the skip before launching the game you have to disable all audio output devices in your system (turning the volume to 0 won't do the job).

It doesn't trigger every time though. You can check if it works by starting any of the campaign missions - if the mission intro text disappears immediately, it's ok. If it stops on the first line of the intro, you have to restart the game. The skip works in whole game and once it triggers, it works as long as you have the game on.

You have to play the game in total silence but it's a huge timesave, especially that it cuts all of the annoyance that comes with moving your mouse to that top right corner all the time, so in my opinion it's worth its' price.

Feel free to ask any further questions and test it yourselves :)

Hm, I'm kinda torn on this tech. One the one hand it's a nice timesaver, on the other hand you have to change something which doesn't happen in the game but rather on your machine to trigger a glitch or something likewise in it. If I had to I would compare this tech to alt-tabbing which also is a very controversial thing in all of speedrunning as you're affecting the program from outside. Thus I'm not too sure how I should feel about it.

Well, the difference between alt-tabbing etc. and this skip is that you don't do it during the run but before it, so you don't interfere in the game directly. I know that a similar skip exists in GTA (can't remember which one though) but you have to disable the audio during the run, so it's forbidden there.

It definitely makes the campaign levels less micro-intense and a TAS-like approximation via no fast-forward more realistic. No fast-forward makes the game longer than it already is, but it becomes a lot more about routing, a decent bit less about basically unmaxable micro, and should remove pretty much any complains about lag and lag reduction methods. Also it's more casual to run. Also this glitch would allow us to record without sound, which should also reduce lag And we don't get the music copyrighted in longer levels Conclusion I like the glitch if it is possible with any hardware. No fast-forward however has no reason to allow it imo

Minecraft uses a core glitch that is caused by actions outside of the game. Minecraft separates its categories, which we could also do by using blue tabs within the categories. Btw, I would suggest finally separating the campaign categories: Renaming True Any% into Campaign Any% and adding No fast-forward and with/without textbox glitch as blue tabs, and renaming Glitchless into Full Campaign (easy, medium, hard, or 100%) with the same blue tabs

Yeah no matter how we decide on this, this surely is the opportunity to sort out this whole speedrun tech and leaderboard and what not mess. Maybe this also is a good opportunity to create an own Anno speedrun discord and not the real-time speedrun strategy one?

Good idea, who should be the owner?

I was so free as to do quickly do that, see here
