Rules (last split)

Hey guys,

I have noticed that not everyone splits at the same spot for the last boss of this game. Would be nice to set a rule for this.

Zoast splitted at the beginning of the whiteout while zzz_PC splits at the end of the whiteout. There is a 10 seconds difference between the two...

Agreed; something I've been thinking as well.

Having some form of consensus on the start and end splits that are added to the rules sections would be great.

It seems everyone on this site starts the timer after pressing start in the control test room so it wouldn't even need any refactoring. Having uniformal end split would help the leaderboards be a tad bit more readable/understandable, which is always good.

As an unbiased opinion/ non runner on the matter, every run on the leaderboards split on the "Dark screen fade". The only exception is Zoast Splitting on Last hit. In my opinion there is no debate as to where the split should be/how Zoast's run should be adjusted to reflect that.

One could argue that it is the longest standing run and should've been used as reference, but I think the community has indirectly decided where the best split part is.

Personally, I don't understand why you'd wait 10 seconds after you lose control to hit the final split. Oh hey, I'm a mod.

I've added the timing rules now and decided on last hit over fadeout. I edited all of the final times to fit that timing rule.

I personally prefer splitting on last hit as that's pretty consistent with SDA timing in many other games. Run timing should measure all the playtime within player control. It's a timing new runners would be used to and find intuitive. In addition, after the last hit, there is that control lock and also that the in-game timer stops. There's nothing useful that's being timed after that. Lastly, it is easier to split later, especially on keyboard, but that's all. I'm willing to make the adjustments to timings.

Please let me know if you disagree and would prefer fadeout! I did overlook the informal consensus Mannix mentioned for what I think is sound reasoning, but maybe I'm wrong.
