I would like to propose a rule change to prohibit the use of Time Warps in No Gold categories.

On mobile versions of the game, a free Time Warp is currently available upon starting a game, without requiring Gold. This free Time Warp is not available on the Steam version of the game.

The purpose of the No Gold subcategory is to differentiate runs that use Gold to useTime Warps and finish the run faster. Using Time Warps in a No Gold run causes the run to essentially play just like a With Gold run.

The free Time Warp for mobile players is unfair to players who play on Steam.

If we make this change, the "Gold" subcategory will be renamed to "With Time Warps" and the "No Gold" subcategory will be renamed to "Without Time Warps."

Please vote in this thread if you are FOR or AGAINST this change.

FOR - Ban the use of Time Warps in No Gold runs. AGAINST - Continue to allow the use of Time Warps in No Gold runs.

Voting ends at the end of July 2020, or when a 51% majority toward either side is reached. You must have a run on the leaderboard for your vote to count. You may submit a run during this period in order to vote.

AGAINST. Let me explain. Now, I know this isn’t fair to Steam users, but even if you play on Steam, you have no problem downloading the game on mobile. You forgot your YouTube account? Create a new one. Out of space? Offload a few apps. Or you can create a separate subcategory for time warps.

FOR. It is unfair to allow mobile users to warp, as the times obtainable on mobile far surpass that of steam, it should either be separated into a new category, or combined with the standard gold category.

Overherb3, but that would mean that all runs would allow gold, right? Mobile users can’t obtain gold before the run starts like steam users can.

FOR. There are advantages that both platforms have over each other (mobile having the free TW and PC having the ability to collect gold before the start of a run). To level the playing field, the best bet would be to combine those runs into a No Time Warp category.

Well Silver, the most fair thing to do at this point would just be to make a time warpless cat, then a time warp mobile, then a time warp other platforms. Otherwise the no gold category won't be fair, because contrary to blizzard's beliefs, not everyone wants to play on their phones, which have a significantly easier time on goldless than steam.

I think @Bat 's statement about how both platforms have advantages over each other is a great point. Changing the categories to With Time Warp and Without Time Warp standardizes the differences between PC and Mobile.

The idea of "If you want a better time, just play on your phone." just doesn't feel right to me. Some people prefer playing on PC and some prefer mobile. There shouldn't be an advantage to players who prefer mobile, if the game plays exactly the same on both and the game is free-to-play on both platforms.

I do want to try to listen to everyone, though. Just because I think the rules should be changed, doesn't mean everyone else does. If like 80% or 90% of people think we should keep the leaderboard the way it is, then I won't change it.

I just discovered it's possible to watch an ad on mobile to double your profits for a period of time. I would want to prohibit that, too, if we are going to standardize all platforms.

You know, you could just do what many other games with this problem do, and just split the categories with a subcategory variable for platforms...

I might do that, and just separate by platform. I think for now I will leave everything alone. There just wasn't enough responses to warrant a change. Not a lot of people actively submit runs to this game.
