Then run it 😛
There's nothing stopping you running categories not on the boards

As long as you can't see RAM values etc, (giving you an unfair advantage) there's no problem with that.

Also the category is 0 Exit; not 0%. A 0% category would just be turning the console on 😉

I'd recommend getting some controllers from japanspel (https://japanspelshop.se/index.php?route=product/category&path=88_102) and also buying some new rubbers to replace the ones in the controller with. There's plenty of good places to get controllers/rubbers from, but I've never been let down by japanspel

When you clip into the corner, hold down + towards the direction you want to clip (usually left) and press A
Actually getting into the corner is purely timing, but making the clip through the wall without being kicked out is subpixel dependent

That'd require its own leaderboard in that case, since hacks aren't allowed on this page

@Brandooates why add console/PC as sub-categories when there's already a platform filter? That's kinda redundant imo

I've added the variable for versions. There's only 2 I'm not certain about on here, as I only had a quick look at each run to see what version it's been ran on. If I'm wrong on any, please let me know. I'm also open to suggestions if you think there's a way to make it neater/tidier

Hi there. Thanks for your input. You've laid out your arguments very clearly, which is very helpful. Some of what you've said I agree with; some of it I don't. Allow me to expand on that:

1. Separation of versions - This is something I overlooked at first, but since recently runs have been submitted on versions other than the 20th anniversary edition I'm going to separate them. They won't be another category, instead a variable. This is due to the routes taken being the same, and with the same ruleset. If somebody wants to view only the runs from one version, they'll be able to filter for this.

2. I'm going to pass over your quotes from earlier in the thread because at the end of the day, it's irrelevant. Whether or not something is true about how the game works seems a bit off-topic from the rest of this thread.

3. Skips/No Skips separation - Of the 14 runs currently on the leaderboard, only one uses skips. You state that what is popular shouldn't define a game's categories, rather opting for standardised categories which most games follow. I'm sorry, but I disagree fundamentally with this. What people enjoy running (what most runs opt to do) is EXACTLY what should define categories. I agree that 100% and low% don't make sense for this game, and while you could view the skips/no skips separation as arbitrary, that's why it's a subcategory rather than its own category. There's nothing I hate more when viewing a game's leaderboards than to see categories with no runs; made purely because it "made sense as a category". If nobody wants to run it, it's not a category.

4. Self-verification - I agree 100% that it should never happen if a game has more than one active mod. My runs are self-verified for a good reason; I was given super mod privileges by an SRC admin after a few weeks of waiting. When looking at the runs awaiting verification, there was one over six months old! It was also faster than the listed WR at the time. Clearly both of the other mods had no interest in looking at the game anymore, so I reviewed all of the runs by myself. When I added Brandooates as a mod, I had no intention of verifying any of my new PBs (just haven't gotten one yet) and I expected him to have the same attitude. I wasn't keen on him verifying his own runs, but I didn't want to start an argument over it especially since it doesn't seem to be an uncommon thing on the site.

--Your next paragraph is irrelevant to the current discussion; being mainly about the Spirit Of Speedrunning--

In summary: different versions of the game will have their own kind of separation (I'll do that as soon as I finish writing this post), skips vs no skips will remain subcategories until a point at which the number of skips runs greatly outweighs the no skips. At that point, another discussion should be had to determine whether to combine them.

I was fully for allowing the clip through the wall at the start in standard any% (or 'any% skips', however we end up calling it) until you mentioned you can't exit out on all versions. Many games have a certain version as the most ran because it's faster for one reason or another (often JP text speed etc) and I have no problem with that. It definitely changes things a bit if you can't exit out and reload on all versions, but I think if it were purely up to me (which of course it isn't) I'd choose to allow it in the skips subcategory. That subcategory should just be the fastest way to beat the game, with no restrictions imo; any skips not done is purely up the the runner and what they're comfortable with putting in runs

When it comes to naming categories, it sounds much less arbitrary in my opinion to have "Xless" rather than "No X" but it's not a big deal. I agree that glitchless is a misleading name if we're just banning all skips and should rather be called "Any% Skipless"

I also think since the route is pretty much exactly the same (minus the actual sips performed along the way) in both categories, it might be a better idea to just combine the two into "Any%" and have subcategories for "Skips" and "Skipless" etc. I'm interested to hear what everyone else thinks though

It's been talked about before, but nobody's really expressed much interest in it. Of course that doesn't stop you running what you want, but it'd look silly to have a bunch of categories/sub categories with no runs. Especially so on the main leaderboards

The game assumes you've got the gun to get to that point, so even if you never pick up the gun, loading that checkpoint gives it you back. Just a programming oversight, and since it's in the glitched category I see no problem with it.

Also congrats on getting into AGDQ! It'll be good to see you there 🙂

You'll want a capture card and some splitters. Put the video/audio out from the snes into the splitters, then you can put the output into both your TV and a capture card. Link the capture card to your computer and voila! You're done. 🙂

Here's a table of which powerup/chuck combinations will give you which powerups. Many of these crash the game, however

What @Volpey said; essentially the powerup you get depends on the kind of chuck (which will always be the same of course) but also Mario's powerup. For orb, you'll want to swap the clappin' chuck as FIRE Mario; ie taking damage will make you SMALL Mario and you'll crash.

Try standing further left on the pipe before jumping off to burn the Rex, as standing too far right can also be a problem.

The main/misc split is purely based on how active categories are. NSW is very rarely ran by many people, and if it got a sudden surge of popularity again, it'd be brought back to main. The real split is between the main leaderboards and the category extension leaderboards
