Thread: No RNG Manipulation - Miscellaneous?

I'd like someone that is pro-misc to explain to me why an any% no card duplication run that does not use manip strats should not count as "Any% (No Card Duplication)" anymore?

It does not matter if you do manip or not, either way if you finish a run, it is still classified as "Any% (No Card Duplication)" the only difference is using manip is much faster.

Doing an "Any% (No Card Duplication)" run and simply choosing not to use manipulation is NOT an arbitrary restriction, you are just deciding to use slower strats/using a slower route. It's not like the people submitting their no rng manip runs are saying to themselves MANIP IS NOT ALLOWED, they just don't wanna do it.

Like even if you do end up choosing to make a separate category somewhere for no manip, does that mean for the main "Any% (No Card Duplication)" category, that you are required to use manip, otherwise you cannot submit to that category?

I was under the impression that misc categories were for runs that use specific arbitrary rules or don't finish the complete game. All of the any% no card dupe and no manip runs do still fall under "Any% (No Card Duplication)" even though not using manip is slower. So I don't understand why any of these runs need to be moved to a separate category and especially not a misc category.

Either keep it the way it is now, or separate RNG manip and no manip into sub categories under no card dup.. misc is a terrible idea since its still the most popular full game category.

Thread: Any tips on movement for beginners?

Started by: CrabshackCrabshack

Do not buy any N64 usb controller they are all bad, if you want to start using N64 controllers on emu I recommend buying a real N64 controller and an adaptor. As for movement just try and make your rollouts dustless, practice the timing until you can get dustless almost every time. Then practice your spacing, sometimes a jump dive would be better than a long jump or a regular dive + speedkick, or etc. Maybe watch others and see what kind of movement they are doing for each star. Try not long jumping everywhere like people used to do back in 2007 I guess lol. I can't think of anything else, movement is such a broad thing, just keep practicing.

It saves time if you can do it well. I'm not sure about the max amount of frames you can save, but it's not the same each time, just thought I'd add that.

Just take the back of the cart and switch it with an american cart you don't use, problem solved.

The correct way to do it is to go neutral once you triple jump and then hold the direction needed (usually leftish, you decide) at the same time as you wallkick.

I cannot believe this thread has gone on for so long. If anyone needs an explanation on how dumb this idea is then it's already too late for them.

If your run has no audio it's denied. If any run is accepted without it, it's either a mistake or the run was submitted and accepted before the "must have sound" rule came into effect. It's just that simple. Record with audio and you won't have this problem.

That is pretty insane nice dude. There is no way they'll add it here but I'd definitely not mind seeing this on the category extensions page.

Sound is required, just don't listen to it. It's not that hard to figure out a set-up where you can listen to music without hearing the game audio (while also recording your gameplay with sound).

Without sound there is no way to prove your run is legit. You do not have to go out of your way to record the audio with your video evidence so just accept the rules, and submit a video with sound.

@dav3yb, again you are not apart of this community it seems. Timing differs from game to game and that is just how we time things, and will it will always be that way.
